Crazy Gopalan

Grappling with the shadowy figure of Kattila Gopalan, a notorious and mysterious thief in the village of Oonjaalaadi, forms the heart of this gripping story. Despite his reputation, nobody has ever seen Gopalan face to face, yet rumors and fear about his actions spread like wildfire among the villagers. They hold him in dread because of his uncanny ability to steal anything he desires without ever being caught or even glimpsed. His true identity remains a secret, enveloped in enigma and legend.

The narrative takes an intriguing turn when a carpenter named Harichandran happens to come across Gopalan for the first time. Realizing that his secret might unravel, Gopalan is compelled to flee the village, seeking refuge in the bustling city. In the city, he crosses paths with Lakshmanan, another thief, who is burdened with the responsibility of caring for his ailing mother. Recognizing a kindred spirit, Gopalan and Lakshmanan form an alliance, engaging in a series of daring thefts. For Lakshmanan, these crimes are not just acts of crime but a means to an end — to care for his mother and try to reclaim his lost ancestral home, which had slipped through his fingers during childhood.

Amidst their criminal escapades, a girl named Diana and her brother Babu John, a wealthy banker and the chairman of Investors Bank, enter their lives. The plot thickens as Babu John is revealed to have stolen 10 crore rupees from his own bank, falsely blaming Gopalan and Lakshmanan for the theft. In a brutal turn, Babu John kills Lakshmanan, leaving Gopalan to escape, fueling rumors that Gopalan was responsible for Lakshmanan’s murder and the theft.

The story takes a somber turn when Lavang Vasu, a local villager, discovers Gopalan’s body washed ashore and, hoping to profit, takes him to his house. Shockingly, Gopalan is without money, and in a twist of fate, Vasu and Gopalan team up. Vasu is promised that Gopalan will provide him the wealth he needs. Later, Gopalan encounters Diana at a church, and she confesses her troubled past — she despised Babu John because he was responsible for her parents’ and her boyfriend Sooraj’s deaths. She reveals that Babu John was her adopted brother.

Gopalan devises a plan with Diana to eliminate Babu John without leaving any proof, beginning by orchestrating a clever theft from Investors Bank with Vasu’s help. Their plan succeeds, deepening Babu John’s distress. Meanwhile, Vinod Abraham, the new police commissioner, aims to solve the case, unaware of Gopalan’s involvement. A series of mistaken identities and police pursuits ensue, with Harichandran being mistakenly taken in while the real Gopalan remains elusive, thanks to Gopalan’s tactical deception.

As the story unfolds, Diana’s clever schemes lead her to discover the secret location of hidden gold bars and black money, known only to Babu John and Chacko. When her plans falter, she confides in Gopalan, prompting him to craft a new strategy involving Chacko to uncover the treasure. She further warns that Babu John plans to destroy Chacko’s family, compelling Chacko to approach Vinod with accusations about the location of the illegal wealth.

Babu John returns from Singapore, but his plans are thwarted when he is captured by the police, thanks to Diana’s clever tricks. Eventually, Gopalan, in a tense confrontation, remembers Babu John killing Lakshmanan and fights back fiercely. In a dramatic climax, Gopalan kills Babu John at the same place where Lakshmanan was murdered, signaling justice served. He then contacts Vinod, informing him that Babu John has been safely taken away to a secure location.

In the final scenes, Gopalan, Diana, and Vasu return to their village. To their surprise, they discover that Kattila Gopalan in the village is actually Harichandran, confirming the deep layers of mystery surrounding Gopalan’s true identity and past. This revelation leaves an echo of unresolved questions, emphasizing themes of identity, justice, and redemption.

Throughout the narrative, the story weaves themes of cunning, loyalty, revenge, and the blurred lines between right and wrong, making it a complex tale of crime and morality.
