Lucky Star

Rafael is a kind-hearted butcher who leads a solitary life. A past accident, years earlier, left him unable to father children, fueling his dream of a family. He goes through his days serving customers at the shop while hoping for change. This inner longing sets the emotional frame for the story.

One early morning, Rafael sees a young man assaulting a woman and acts quickly to intervene. He pulls the assailant off and then takes Marina into his home out of concern. Marina explains that the man is Daniel, her boyfriend, and that her life has been hard on the streets.

Marina shares a painful past, revealing an orphanage childhood and a father who abandoned her. She and Daniel grew up together under harsh conditions and now she is pregnant by him. She longs to give the baby a loving family, and she is drawn to Rafael's offer of care.

Daniel is in jail, leaving Marina without support. Rafael offers to take care of Marina and the unborn child, presenting a chance at the family she has dreamed of. Marina accepts, but warns that Daniel could return and threaten their fragile arrangement.

Rafael visits Daniel in jail, and a wary respect grows between them. Daniel reveals he was raped in prison and is gravely ill. He is released to spend his remaining days at home.

Daniel begs Marina to help him die; she shoots him to release him from his suffering. Marina dies before she can be charged with the killing, leaving Rafael to confront the consequences.

With Daniel gone, Rafael is left to raise Estrella and the newborn daughter. The family is broken, but his resolve and kindness endure as he carries on.
