Two former friends, now adults, decide to turn their childhood Cops & Robbers games into a real bank heist. Their decision marks a dangerous pivot from harmless play to crime. The plan sets the stage for the trouble that follows.

During the attempted robbery, the plan spirals out of control. Hands flees the scene while Guscott is left trapped behind the security shutters. The failed heist draws the attention of the police and seals their fates.

Hands is caught and arrested not long after the robbery. He is processed by authorities and imprisoned. The two friends are separated as Hands faces the consequences of their actions.

In prison, Hands and Guscott hatch a daring escape plan that uses the prison's upcoming production as cover. They intend to slip away during Nelson: The Musical, exploiting the show as a distraction. The plan relies on timing, performance, and a bit of luck.

During rehearsals, Cliff Gumbell volunteers as the pianist and wins over the inmates with his skill. Hands is cast as Nelson, while Guscott plays Hardy, adding a twist to their on-stage fates. The rehearsal room becomes the workshop for their escape scheme.

A guard grows suspicious of Hands, threatening to derail the plan. A dangerous inmate pressures Hands to help him escape, increasing the stakes. Around these pressures, Hands begins to warm to Annabel, a prison employee who could alter his choices.

On visiting day, Gumbell learns his son is spending more time with his uncle and that his wife is disappointed by his life of crime. Unable to cope with the shame, Gumbell commits suicide in his cell.

The night of Nelson: The Musical arrives and the escape plan goes into motion. The dangerous inmate is tricked into climbing the 30-foot wall and falls to the other side, where he is captured. Hands and Guscott push ahead with their escape as the tension peaks.

As the plan unfolds, Hands reveals he will stay behind due to his feelings for Annabel. Guscott, with hardened resolve, escapes with two other inmates, aided by a friend who arrives by plane to assist their breakout.

Back inside, a guard resigns from his job in frustration over the inmates' escape and shifts into a new role as a car park warden. The resignation signals a shift in prison staff dynamics. The escape ultimately changes how the system operates.

Hands is released from prison and begins a new life with Annabel. The ending hints at a hopeful future beyond the heist and its fallout.
