Russ Richards, a charming weatherman, enjoys the perks of local fame in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he relishes his reserved parking spot and a personalized omelet at Denny’s. However, beneath his cheerful demeanor, he faces a looming financial crisis: his snowmobile dealership teeters on the edge of failure due to an unusually warm winter. In a desperate bid to get rich quickly, his dubious friend Gig, a strip club owner, proposes an insurance scam that predictably spirals out of control, plunging Russ further into debt while attracting the ire of a relentless hitman, Dale.
As Gig conjures up another reckless plan to rig the Pennsylvania Lottery, he allies himself with his morally questionable girlfriend, Crystal Latroy, a bubbly model who announces winning lottery numbers on TV, and her eccentric cousin. Their scheme initially brings windfalls, netting them a staggering $6.4 million jackpot. But just as victory seems within reach, everything starts disintegrating, prompted by Walter’s unbridled greed, which results in a deadly confrontation with Crystal.
The situation escalates when the sleazy station manager, Dick Simmons, intrigued by Crystal and armed with knowledge of their scheme, resorts to blackmail. In the wake of the accident, Lakewood finds Russ at the hospital, griping over his mounting misfortunes.
