Calvin Cambridge and his friends Murph and Reg navigate the challenges of living in an overcrowded orphanage. Under the supervision of their stern director, Stan Bittleman, these orphaned youths bond over their shared experiences and dreams.

The children are assigned the task of selling chocolates following the NBA games of the Los Angeles Knights. This responsibility serves both as a way to raise funds and to connect them with the world of basketball they aspire to be part of.

While rummaging through a donation box at a thrift store, Calvin stumbles upon a remarkable pair of sneakers linked to the basketball legend Michael Jordan. His excitement quickly turns to dismay when a bully named Ox steals the sneakers and dangles them high above on a power line.
