Kattukuthira

Kochuraman is a village toddy collector in the Ezhava caste, living with his wife and son Kochuvava. He leads a simple, content life defined by family, work, and a strong sense of self. The village is his world, and his steady routine anchors the story.

Manorama, daughter of the feudal lord of the ruling Kshatriya family, falls for Kochuraman and begins pursuing him. She ignores the vast caste gap between them, drawn by his strength and presence. Their secret attraction sets the stage for a collision with the power structure around them.

The feudal lord discovers the affair and orders Kochuraman's murder. He is killed, his chopped-off body displayed in a pool of blood under a coconut tree, a brutal symbol of the village’s code. Manorama is left paralysed after being kicked by the Thampuran during the brutal act. The community bears witness to the tragedy.

Kochuvava, now grown, witnesses his father's murder and swears revenge. He commits to dismantling the old feudal order and to reshaping his own life through power and wealth. The vow roots him in a path of ruthless ambition.

Kochuvava matures into a ruthless Abkari entrepreneur, amassing wealth through both legal and illegal means. He buys up everything in the village, including the kovilakam, pushing the old aristocracy to the margins as times change. His ascent signals a new social order and the consolidation of power.

For the sake of revenge, he plans to start illicit Arrack production inside the kovilakam, increasing profits and driving out the remaining residents—Manorama and the young girl living there with their overseer Raman Nair. The operation is designed to cement his control over the land and its people. This plan makes him a nefarious force in the village.

To seal his vendetta, he also plans to dig a pond where the kovilakam now stands. Drinking water from that pond will symbolize the final triumph over his enemies. The act embodies the culmination of his long-standing retribution.

Mohan, Kochuvava's immature son, resents the plan and disapproves of the couple's romance. He sees the aristocratic girl as scheming to claim wealth and status, complicating family loyalties. The tension between generations amplifies the tragedy that follows.

Kochuthampuratti and Mohan decide to live together, seeking independence from their parents. They move to stay with Kochuvava, who initially refuses and threatens hardship for them if they stay in the old palace. The family dynamics become a powder keg that ignites soon after.

Unable to tolerate the shame and loss, the lovers go to the palace and hang themselves. Raman Nair, the palace overseer, witnesses the hanging and is forced to confront the consequences of the village’s caste-driven codes. The scene marks a turning point in Kochuvava’s revenge plot.

Raman Nair then burns down the palace with Manorama alive inside, a dramatic act driven by humiliation and anger. He travels to inform Kochuvava and the rest of the village of the atrocity and the burning ruin. The palace goes up in flames, reshaping the landscape and the power balance.

Kochuvava is forced to confront the consequences of love and fire. The tragedy marks the end of his grand vendetta, as he bows his head in humility. It is a bitter note on the limits of vengeance.

The film leaves Raman Nair’s punishment open and questions whether Kochuvava will still pursue his pond plan. The ending implies that the cycle of desire and retribution continues beyond the film’s events. The final image is one of ruin and unresolved justice.
