In Coimbatore, Kannan, son of a retired commissioner and heir to wealth, is spoiled by his mother Lakshmi. He arranges a free birthday trip for everyone, showing off his lavish lifestyle. Manimegalai refuses to join, setting a prickly tone for their first interaction.

Kannan is tasked with organizing the college's silver jubilee function. He meets Govindan who suggests a singing event. He spots Manimegalai singing at a temple and invites her to perform, but she declines because of his reputation with women. The moment underscores the initial barrier between them.

Desperate to win her over, Kannan tries to bribe villagers with sarees, silver pots, and groceries. He even lays a road in her locality and repairs plumbing to earn her notice. He fights her neighbor and serenades her, but she remains unmoved.

Kannan develops real feelings for Manimegalai, but she dislikes him. Her father visits Kannan's home demanding restraint and she files a complaint against him for eve-teasing. The confrontation marks a turning point in their relationship.

Kannan's father rebukes his arrogance and asks Lakshmi to reveal a long-hidden truth. The temple priest reveals that Kannan is an adopted orphan, shocking Lakshmi and reshaping the family dynamics.

Manimegalai relocates to Ooty seeking a fresh start. She saves Raja from a critical accident and is appointed his personal assistant, gaining influence in the new city.

Kannan and Govindan trail Manimegalai to Ooty, hoping to mend fences. He helps Raja secure a money-containing suitcase from thieves and is hired as Raja's car driver, though Manimegalai secretly works for Raja too.

Govindan finds a house in the same colony as Manimegalai, while she tries to push Kannan away by portraying closeness to Raja. She falsely accuses Kannan of stealing cash, deflecting blame. Raja dismisses Kannan from his job.

Manimegalai attempts suicide but neighbors rescue her. Her father visits and tells of Kannan's transformed character, while tragedy strikes at Kannan's home as his mother dies and his adopted father becomes paralysed. He cares for his father until his death, inheriting the estate.

Kannan donates his wealth to orphanages, marking his redemption. Raja reveals that Manimegalai wrongly accused him and rehiring Kannan as the company bus conductor. This revelation reignites their feelings.

Manimegalai realizes her mistake and her love for Kannan grows. She starts using the company bus to catch glimpses of him and even surprises him on his birthday, signaling a new closeness.

Raja kidnaps the couple, but ultimately helps them reunite and blesses their union before leaving. The couple's relationship is sealed with Raja's final benevolence.
