Mangal discovers that Girdhar and Neela have neglected their dance practice while he was away buying costumes. Instead of practicing, they spent time together in romantic walks and boat rides. Mangal believes the romance has compromised Girdhar's technique and will cost them the Bharat Natarajan title. Furious that his son's artistic future is being jeopardized by personal relationships, Mangal disowns Girdhar and refuses to help him.

Earlier, Manilal had warned Mangal that romance was distracting the dancers, but Mangal ignored him.

After Mangal disowns Girdhar, Neela fabricates a lie that she has cheated on Girdhar with Manilal. Her goal is to drive Girdhar away from their romance and push him back toward his father and his art. She sacrifices her own relationship and reputation to protect Girdhar's chances of winning the competition and achieving his dream of becoming Bharat Natarajan.

Manilal had wanted Neela for himself and warned Mangal about the romance, giving him motive to cooperate with the deception.

When Girdhar believes Neela's lie that she cheated on him, he rejects her severely. The combination of losing Girdhar's trust, being separated from her true love, and the guilt of her own deception becomes unbearable. Devastated by the collapse of her relationship and unable to bear the pain, Neela walks into the river to end her life, but is rescued by a sadhu.

Neela had already sacrificed her happiness for Girdhar's career by creating the rift.

Manilal bribes Girdhar's new dance partner to drop out of the competition, hoping to sabotage Girdhar's chances. Neela, despite being ill and having withdrawn from the dance world, steps in at the last moment to perform the Tandav herself. She sacrifices her health and stays true to her promise to help Girdhar win the competition.

Neela's original agreement with Mangal was to partner Girdhar in the Tandav portion.

During the competition, Mangal realizes that Neela sacrificed her own happiness and health to help Girdhar succeed. Despite everything, she stepped in when his new partner abandoned him and helped him win. Mangal recognizes that Neela's devotion to both Girdhar and their art is genuine, and he apologizes for his earlier rigidness. He grants his blessing for their marriage, acknowledging that love and art can coexist.

Mangal had earlier demanded that Neela devote her life to art alone, but her actions prove love and devotion to art are not mutually exclusive.

Tandav is a vigorous and energetic form of classical Indian dance, often associated with Lord Shiva's cosmic dance. In the film, Mangal trains Girdhar and Neela to perform the Tandav as part of the Shiv-Parvati Tandav sequence in the Nateshwar Utsav competition. Winning this competition would earn Girdhar the title of Bharat Nataraj, the supreme dancer of India.

Mangal's lifelong ambition is for his son to become Bharat Natraj.

Manilal, who is jealous because he wants Neela for himself, bribes Girdhar's new dance partner to withdraw from the competition at the last moment. By removing Girdhar's partner, Manilal hopes to ruin Girdhar's chances of performing the Tandav and winning the Bharat Natarajan title. However, Neela intervenes and takes the partner's place.

Manilal had previously warned Mangal about the romance and attempted to turn him against the dancers.

After being rescued by the sadhu and dedicating her life to Krishna, Neela attempts to erase her past and move on. When Girdhar returns unable to forget her, she decides to maintain her resolve to stay devoted to Krishna. She pretends not to know him to push him away and protect both of them from renewed emotional pain, hoping he will focus on winning the competition instead.

Neela had been inspired by Meerabai's devotion to Krishna after her suicide attempt.
