The story begins with the tragic birth of Ossie, which leads to the untimely death of their mother, Mary. This event profoundly affects Tito and Ossie, leaving them to navigate life without her guidance and love.

Following their mother's death, Tito and Ossie live with their father, 'Papa' Reilly, in a somber tower block. Struggling with his past glory as the 'King of Irish Travellers,' Papa faces the challenge of keeping the family united and afloat amidst their grief.

The boys seek comfort in their grandfather, who captivates them with enchanting Irish folk-tales. These stories ignite their imagination and provide a much-needed escape from their harsh reality.

One fateful day, a majestic white horse named Tír na nÓg appears mysteriously from the sea. Its arrival fills Tito and Ossie with wonder and longing for adventures beyond the dreariness of their lives.

Enthralled by Tír na nÓg, Tito and Ossie envision themselves as cowboys, dreaming of adventures that could take them far away from their challenges. This dream marks the beginning of their extraordinary journey.

Tragedy strikes when corrupt Gardai discover Tír na nÓg and seize him. They sell the beloved horse as a racehorse, leaving the brothers devastated and deeply determined to reclaim their magical companion.

After seeing Tír na nÓg on television, Tito and Ossie set off on a daring adventure to bring him back. Defying the constraints of their impoverished lifestyle, they travel 'Into the West' on their quest.

As the boys embark on their quest, their father's struggles mount when he faces arrest and mistreatment by the corrupt authorities. With support from a friend named Kathleen, he resolves to unite with his sons at all costs.

The brothers employ traditional Traveller methods to navigate their perilous path. With Gardai deploying helicopters and dogs to pursue them, they must rely on Tír na nÓg’s supernatural abilities to evade capture.

During their adventure, Tír na nÓg leads Tito and Ossie to their mother's grave. At this important moment, Ossie uncovers the truth surrounding her death, deepening their emotional connection to her memory.

Eventually, the brothers find themselves cornered at the beach by the Gardai. In a joyous reunion, they are joined by Papa Reilly, Kathleen, and the Barrel maker, as they face the climactic confrontation.

As tensions rise, Tír na nÓg charges into the sea with Ossie on his back, leading to a nail-biting moment. Papa Reilly leaps in after them, showcasing his unwavering love and desperation to protect his sons.

After pulling a lifeless Ossie from the water, Papa Reilly performs CPR, igniting a flicker of hope. In a heartwarming moment, Ossie comes back to life, and the family rejoices in their bond.

With the search for them finally called off, Papa Reilly finds closure in setting his Barrel Wagon ablaze. This poignant act symbolizes the fading memory of his lost wife and a new beginning for the family.
