Following the loss of his wife, Eddington descends into despair, leading to a bar fight and a brief stint in jail. Unable to cope, he is transferred to a mundane logistics command, far from the action he once knew.

Overwhelmed by his anguish, Eddington commandeers a PBJ patrol bomber for a desperate reconnaissance mission. His flight ends in catastrophe, but not before he provides critical intelligence about the Japanese super-battleship Yamato.
