Dark House

Fourteen years ago, the Old Darrode House earned its infamous reputation when Mrs. Janet Darrode, a harsh and devout foster-mother, murdered the children under her care and then took her own life. The opening scenes follow a young girl who steps into the house on the day of the massacre and discovers a blood-soaked scene that will echo through the lives of those connected to the place.

Fourteen years later, Claire Thompson, a local girl and aspiring actor, carries the weight of that night. She has been seeing a therapist who urges her to confront the house, even though the gate still feels like a barrier she can’t cross. The breakthrough comes when horror mogul Walston Rey appears in her advanced acting class and reveals that he has transformed the house into a horror attraction. He wants Claire and her classmates to work as hosts, presenting the experience in true-to-life fashion. To Claire, this opportunity feels like a chance to face her fears safely, surrounded by peers.

Inside, the crew showcases a dazzling holographic three-dimensional system that renders lifelike, interactive horror figures that seem harmless at first. But when the restless spirit of Mrs. Darrode slips into the apparatus, the holograms awaken with terrifying realism and are fueled by the fear of their viewers. What begins as a controlled scare spirals into a deadly nightmare as the system runs amok, trapping the survivors inside and forcing them to fight to shut it down and escape.

As the chaos unfolds, Claire’s memory fractures into clarity. She recalls her childhood under Mrs. Darrode’s yoke, a period marked by abuse and fanatic religious doctrine. When she and the other children rebel—burning their Holy Bibles and rejecting the cruel lessons—the matron erupts in a psychotic rage, slaughtering the others and branding them sinners and heretics. Claire hides in a closet and escapes the massacre, only to witness Darrode’s subsequent remorse drive her to kill herself by forcing her hands into the kitchen garbage disposal.

Back in the present, the memory catalyzes a shift in Claire. She confronts the lingering threat of the ghost, and Darrode’s apparition vanishes before the authorities arrive. Claire is taken into custody, believed to be responsible for the past violence and diagnosed with a mental illness.

In the final act, the very girl who discovered the original horror returns to the house to seek closure with her own trauma, only to be trapped and killed alongside her boyfriend. The movie ends on a stark, unsettling note as Claire is restrained in a padded cell, screaming a chilling warning:

“SHE’S STILL OUT THERE!”
