Tyler Laird [Kevin Makely] and his girlfriend Natalie [Summer Spiro] set out on a camping trip that Tyler hopes will end with a marriage proposal, turning the woods into a private stage for a life-changing moment. The night unfolds with soft conversation and warmth, and after a tender pause they drift off to sleep. But a slow, deliberate knock from within the forest shatters the calm: as Tyler steps toward the sound, Natalie is dragged into the trees by an unseen creature, leaving her fate uncertain and Tyler shaken.

Twelve months pass, and Tyler is released from Cowlitz County Psych Ward, brought home by his mother Rita Laird. She returns the couple’s belongings—photos, camera, and memory—recovered from the scene. When he reviews the pictures, a huge shape looms in the background, a sign that the forest still holds dark, unexplained truths. With his mother’s blessing, Tyler ventures back into the woods, carrying little more than a hunting rifle and his resolve to uncover what happened.

In the forest, Tyler discovers clues that hint at a deeper intrusion: signs claiming ownership by a company named Xylon Incorporated and a massive footprint pressed into the mud. A sudden setback comes when his camping gear disappears at a creek, forcing him to retreat to his truck for safety, armed only with his revolver and rifle. In the pre-dawn hush, a massive creature shoves a felled tree through his windows, prompting him to fire twice in a desperate defense before the Beast retreats.

A second hunter, Eli Verunde [Todd A. Robinson], arrives at the scene and offers Tyler a place at his nearby camp. The two men form a cautious alliance as Eli shares local legends about Chinook symbols and creatures that are “not friendly to man,” and he reveals he’s searching for what he calls “the Big Man.” Returning to Eli’s camp, they find a tree uprooted and shoved into the fire pit, a troubling sign of the Beast’s lingering presence. When a roar erupts in the distance, they push past the Chinook markers and into riskier ground.

Tyler slips into a marshy clearing amid smashed trees and decomposing carcasses, and a boulder tears from the forest, breaking Eli’s leg. Tyler fights to pull him to safety, firing shots as snow begins to fall. He leaves Eli with his revolver and heads back to recover his gear, only to discover Natalie’s engagement ring in the dirt—a stark reminder of what’s at stake—before the Beast returns to stalk him. Tyler drags Eli’s limp body away, stitches his own wounds, and arms himself with makeshift weapons as they escape to the river’s edge and set up a defensive camp with four fire pits.

Days pass, and Eli urges Tyler to flee and save himself, but Tyler refuses to abandon his friend. In a devastating turn, Eli decides to move on in secret, leaving behind his rifle for support. When Tyler wakes, he finds Eli’s camp besieged by the Beast, which finishes the hunter and then turns its attention to him. A brutal struggle ensues; Tyler manages to shoot the Beast, which retreats into the forest.

Refusing to quit, Tyler sets a trap at the camp and uses the horn from Eli’s truck to lure the Beast to the perimeter. A final, calculated gamble follows: a propane tank is struck, a flare is tossed, and the resulting explosion sears the Beast, leaving it engulfed in flames as the forest around them burns in the snow-dusted twilight.

Hours later, a weary, exhausted Tyler staggers onto a mountain highway and collapses on the road. He wakes in a hospital bed while a new voice reveals itself: Jackson Wells—a man who believes in monsters because he has seen them before. He explains that he’s part of a team and that he’s recruiting. The encounter leaves Tyler’s fate open, but the encounter with Wells confirms that the world he’s tapped into goes far beyond one terrifying night in the woods. The film closes on a note of wary possibility, with Tyler’s ordeal suggesting there are larger forces and people who hunt, study, and perhaps even protect creatures that defy explanation.
