Half Light

Thomas drowns while playing near the canal by their London home, an event that shatters Rachel’s sense of safety. The tragedy devastates her and strains her marriage, while crippling her ability to finish her latest novel.

In search of peace and a way to finish her book, Rachel moves to a remote Scottish coast cottage. The isolation compounds her grief and loneliness as she grapples with her inability to write.

Rachel begins to see the ghost of her late son at the cottage. The spirit drags her into the water and later manipulates a set of magnets on the refrigerator, deepening her sense that something supernatural is trying to tell her something.

A town psychic tells Rachel that her son's spirit is trying to convey a message. The locals, however, warn that the psychic could be a troubled woman rather than a genuine conduit.

Rachel forms a romantic connection with Angus, the handsome lighthouse keeper. Their budding relationship becomes a focal point as she clings to hope that her son may be guiding her, even as she suspects something dark about Angus.

It is revealed that Angus killed his wife and her lover in the lighthouse seven years earlier and then took his own life. This past casts a shadow over Rachel's trust in him and complicates her grief.

News articles about the lighthouse tragedy disappear from the local library as investigations stall. Shortly after, Sharon Winton goes missing following Rachel’s sighting of Sharon being killed by Angus in the lighthouse.

It emerges that Brian, Rachel's ex-husband, has been having an affair with Sharon. They hire a man named Patrick to pose as Angus to provoke Rachel into acting irrationally in public, so that a staged suicide would seem plausible.

Sharon and Brian drug Rachel and dump her into the sea. She is saved when the keys to the chains fall into the water, allowing her to free herself and seek the truth.

Rachel travels to the lighthouse to confront her attackers and seek vengeance. A cryptic slate once read 'don't forget, look behind you,' and she recalls her son's voice repeating the line in the water.

In the ensuing confrontation, Sharon is accidentally killed by a blow to the head in the kitchen, and Brian is murdered by Patrick, who is possessed by the spirit of Angus. Patrick then jumps from the tower, following the pattern of Angus’s own death.

Rachel leaves the coastal area with a vow that no one will access the lighthouse again so that Angus's spirit can rest. She returns to London to celebrate her son's life rather than mourn his death.
