Gumrah

Meena and Kamla are the daughters of a wealthy Nainital resident. Kamla lives with her attorney husband Ashok in Mumbai while Meena is in love with artist-singer Rajendra. Kamla discovers Meena's affair and schemes to marry Meena to Rajendra in order to protect the family's reputation. Ashok remains unaware of the romance.

Kamla returns to Nainital for her delivery but dies after falling off a cliff near her father's home. Her death creates a crisis for Meena and the entire family. To safeguard Kamla's children and honor her memory, Meena is forced into an arranged marriage with Ashok. Ashok remains unaware of Meena's prior romance.

Meena is compelled to marry Ashok, stepping into a new life she did not choose. Ashok does not know about her relationship with Rajendra. The marriage is presented as a solution to the crisis created by Kamla's death, but it binds Meena to a life she cannot fully control.

For a while after the marriage, Meena's life seems to stabilize, but she resumes clandestine meetings with Rajendra. Rajendra moves toward Mumbai, following Meena and reigniting their forbidden relationship. The tension between duty and desire grows as the lovers maneuver around Ashok's ignorance.

Leela, who claims to be Rajendra's wife, arrives and begins to pressure Meena. She threatens exposure and consequences, leveraging Meena's secret romance to extract favors. Meena's life spirals into a crisis as the blackmail escalates.

Meena stands at a crossroads between Rajendra and Ashok. The blackmail forces her to consider a life she did not choose and must decide where her loyalties truly lie. Her desire for Rajendra contrasts with her duty to her husband and family.

Meena realizes Leela is not Rajendra's wife and confronts her in anger. In a moment of rage she tries to kill Leela, but Ashok intervenes to stop her. The confrontation marks a turning point as the truth about Leela's identity begins to surface.

Ashok explains that Leela is actually his secretary and that he had orchestrated the situation. He also reveals he had instructed his secretary to test Meena’s fidelity. This revelation shifts the balance of power in the relationship and begins to ease the tension.

Ashok tells Meena that she can go with Rajendra if she wishes. She contemplates the possibility of leaving, but the emotional bonds and the social implications keep her anchored.

Rajendra comes to Ashok's home, seeking clarity about Meena's feelings. Meena tells him there is no Meena left—only Mrs. Ashok—urging him to forget her.

Meena apologizes to Ashok for her behavior, and he forgives her. The couple decides to move forward, choosing to reconcile despite the earlier turmoil. Their bond reforms as they face the future together.

The film ends with the message that they lived happily thereafter, underscoring the central conflict between love and marital duty. The narrative reflects on women's agency and social norms of the era, suggesting forgiveness within the marriage.
