Elfie Hopkins

Elfie lives in a small English village where hunting is common and she mostly spends time smoking pot with her friend Dylan. Her father and stepmother want her to do more with her life, pushing her toward a conventional path. She imagines becoming a beautician, but that is not what she truly desires.

Elfie’s mother died in a hunting-related accident when Elfie was 12. To this day Elfie is convinced it was murder and she blames herself because her mother was searching for her. This backstory fuels Elfie’s later amateur sleuthing.

Driven by her mother’s mysterious death, Elfie starts investigating what happened and begins to act as an amateur sleuth. She follows clues and rumors around the village. Her investigations often intersect with everyday life and local suspicion.

The new neighbors, the Gammons, move into a fabulous house and immediately catch the village’s attention. They run a travel agency, and rumors swirl that people they send on trips never return. Elfie’s curiosity focuses on their strange prosperity and their impact on the town.
