Ek Duuje Ke Liye

The movie opens at a ruined building near Goa's beach, where the walls are covered with names and two neighbors from different worlds stand out: Vasu, a Tamil man, and Sapna, a North Indian college student. Vasu has just returned to Goa after quitting his job, and Sapna is curious about him despite the language barrier. Their initial proximity hints at a forbidden love amid family tensions.

Sapna trails Vasu as he jogs and starts a one-sided conversation, aided by his willingness to be friendly. He reveals he can't understand Hindi, which fascinates her and draws them closer. A shy spark of attraction begins to form between them.

Vasu tries to meet Sapna again but crashes his motorcycle. Sapna responds by sending him a ceremonial mask with her name, helping him learn her name and feel connected. Their bond deepens despite the looming family feud.

Despite hostile families, Vasu and Sapna fall deeply in love and explore Goa's beaches and forts together. A misread kiss leads to a breakup, testing their commitment. They both try to understand each other's world and keep the spark alive.

Vasu waits by Sapna's window all night, and her lights flicker as a sign of forgiveness. The next day Sapna forgives him and they reaffirm their love, signaling a potential future together. They decide to weather the opposition to stay connected.

While returning home late, they pose as a newly married couple to get a ride, only to discover Sapna's father is in the car and takes her home. The incident underscores the risks they face and the price of pursuing love openly. Their relationship enters a more desperate, clandestine phase.

Sapna's parents learn of the romance after the lewd bookstore clerk shows them photos of Vasu and Sapna. Sapna's mother forbids contact. Later, Vasu defies the restrictions to meet Sapna at college, and a bold scene in a hotel elevator draws public attention before the guards intervene.

The families meet and demand a cruel test: the lovers must separate for one year with no contact. They reluctantly agree, turning their romance into a test of endurance. The separation intensifies their longing and resolves their future into a fated choice.

Vasu relocates to Hyderabad for work while Sapna stays in Goa. He writes a letter every day to Sapna but never sends it, bound by the contract. He learns Hindi from a kind widow, Sandhya, and takes up classical dance to cope with the pain of separation.

Sapna revisits places the lovers shared, including the rock where their names are painted. Her mother destroys a cassette of Vasu's song and burns Sapna's photo, while Sapna writes Vasu's name on her bedroom wall in defiance. The memory of him keeps her strong.

During a college trip to Mangalore, Vasu encounters Sapna again but is misled by Chakram that she is about to marry. Sandhya, who has learned the truth from Vasu's letters, travels to Goa, tells Sapna the reality, and cancels her own wedding to unite the lovers. She helps convince Vasu to return to Sapna.

Upon learning the wedding is canceled, Sandhya's brother, in drunken fury, calls a criminal associate to 'get rid' of Vasu. In Goa, a gang brutally beats Vasu as Sapna heads toward the beach to meet him, raising the stakes of their doomed romance.

At the beach, the bookstore clerk attacks Sapna; she falls from a second-floor balcony, and the attacker rapes her. Vasu arrives badly injured, and the couple joins hands to leap off a cliff together, choosing a tragedy that seals their love. The film ends on their united, doomed fate.
