Sivasankaran Nair is a young, aspiring medical representative trapped in the grip of debt from mortgages on his home and other properties left by his deceased father. He shares a modest life with his mother and sister, and his days revolve around the dream of earning more money and building a bigger home once all loans are repaid. This drive toward financial security frames every choice he makes, coloring his interactions and decisions with a sense of urgency and risk.
His neighbor and close childhood friend is Aboobacker, a taxi driver who often travels with him on work trips. Their bond offers a sense of loyalty and trust, even as the world around them becomes increasingly unpredictable. One night, they take on a dangerous assignment: transporting a dead body for extra cash. The job pushes them into a murkier moral landscape than they have ever faced.
On their return, the taxi breaks down near a beach, and they decide to spend the night inside the car. A strange dream haunts [Sivasankaran Nair] as the corpse in the trunk seems to come alive and asks for a match. The unsettling dream convinces them that the car now carries a stench of death, so they choose to remain by the sea rather than risk risky, normal life. In that eerily quiet moment, they overhear a smugglers’ trio discussing why their shipment failed to reach its destination. A sudden sense of opportunity arises: they tip off the Customs department to claim a reward.
When the authorities catch the smugglers red-handed, a handsome sum—20 lakhs—is placed in play. But the triumph isn’t clean. The smuggler at the center of the loss, Stephen, learns about the informant from inside sources and resolves to silence the threat. His associates tighten the noose, and a deadly plan aims at Sivasankaran Nair and his friend as they make their way back with the reward.
Deciding to stay ahead of danger, Sivasankaran Nair and Aboobacker stash the money and lay low in a hotel before depositing the cash in a bank. Fate has other plans: Sivasankaran unknowingly ends up in the same hotel as Stephen, while Abu returns to his life at home. Stephen and his henchmen close in, and a furious confrontation detonates in the hotel. Siva runs with the money in hand, seeking cover, and a brutal fight culminates in a shot that sends him plunging from a bridge into a river.
Back home, Rajappan, a local police constable, lives with his wife Lakshmi and his sister-in-law Thankam (also known as Snehalatha). The story returns to the neighborhood as Siva reappears on the upper balcony of Rajappan’s house. In a tense moment, Thankam sees Siva and, marking a turn toward humanity, helps him hide, feeds him, and helps him remove the bullet. Her compassion becomes a lifeline, and Siva opens up about his ordeal, explaining that life’s value became clear only after surviving three days in hiding. He credits Thankam’s empathy for saving his life.
Meanwhile, Rajappan’s volatile temper spills into his home life, as he lashes out at his wife over a missing bottle of alcohol used in treating Siva’s wound. The peril of their world grows as Stephen reappears, gathering information about Siva from Abu and those close to him. Stephen reaches Siva’s home to probe for answers, and Abu—steeled by a grim resolve—insists that their goal was only money and refuses to reveal Siva’s whereabouts, a move that leads to Abu’s murder.
With the danger closing in, Siva sends a letter through Thankam to Abu, proposing a quiet meeting. Thankam’s father, Thankam’s father, scolds his daughter for stepping out and leaving the home, yet Thankam deftly passes the message along. Abu then meets Siva in the cover of darkness, and Siva clarifies that he never ran with the money. Abu believes him and, in a moment of stalwart loyalty, plans to arrange a train ticket the next day so Siva can leave with the money. He asks Abu to look after his family, and Thankam asks Siva to consider taking her along to safety.
In the same breath of night, Rajappan returns home and, upon finding Thankam alone, makes an aggressive move. Siva intervenes to protect her, and Thankam’s father strikes back at Rajappan, driving him away. With the danger mounting, Siva vows to depart for the railway, promising to return to marry Thankam.
As Stephen’s patience wears thin, he pressures Abu for Siva’s location. Abu refuses to divulge the information, and Stephen murders Abu in cold pursuit. On the road to the railway, Siva discovers Abu’s body still inside the taxi, a stark, final betrayal of the trust that once linked them. Stephen and his remaining allies close in, but Siva fights back with all his remaining resolve and ends Stephen’s threat with a fatal strike.
The film closes on a brutal, heartbreaking image: a devastated Sivasankaran Nair cradling his friend’s lifeless body beside an open briefcase of money, the Dhanam money fluttering in the night air as the screen fades. The story lingers on the moral toll of pursuing wealth at any cost and the enduring human values of courage, loyalty, and compassion in the face of violence.
