In the year 1963, a young boy in Gatlin claims to have received a divine message from He Who Walks Behind The Rows. He tells the other children that their adult counterparts are to blame for the town's drought, urging them to kill everyone over the age of 19 to appease the God.

Following the boy's proclamation, the children form a deadly cult with a morbid rule: anyone reaching the age of nineteen must be sacrificed. This dangerous belief sets a violent precedent for the town, marking the beginning of their sinister practices.

Fast forward to 1975, Burt and his wife Vicky are on a road trip to celebrate their second honeymoon. Their journey takes a dark turn when they accidentally run over a boy named Joseph, whose throat has been slashed, leaving them in a state of panic.

After placing Joseph's body in their trunk, Burt discovers blood on Joseph's suitcase. Inside, Vicky finds a tribal idol made of corn, identifying it as a pagan object, raising their concern about the town they are approaching.

Upon reaching Gatlin, Burt and Vicky find the town eerily abandoned, with clues hinting at a dark past. They come across a church still displaying a sermon board dated last week, which piques their curiosity, despite Vicky's urging to leave.

Injured and dehydrated, Burt experiences vivid flashbacks from Vietnam, mistaking the children for enemies. While fighting for survival, he kills some of the children due to his delirium, showing the inner turmoil lingering within him.

That night, Isaac conducts a disturbing sermon, encouraging young children to engage in sexual acts as part of their cult's rituals. This shocking display reflects the corrupted ideals the cult imparts on its young followers.

As Burt wanders the cornfields, he discovers Vicky has been killed and made into a scarecrow, leading him to the horrific realization of her fate. This leaves Burt vulnerable and enraged, fueling his next actions.
