Five college friends — Siddharth as Munna, Bharath Srinivasan as Babu Kalyanam, Nakul as Juju, S. Thaman as Krishna, and Manikandan as Kumar — drift through a carefree, sometimes reckless college life that often earns disapproval from their parents. During this turbulent phase they befriend the middle‑aged Vivek as Mangalam and meet Genelia D’Souza as Harini, a connection that eventually sparks a deep romance between Munna and Harini. This budding love quickly becomes a flashpoint, igniting anger and worry in both sets of parents and setting the stage for a dramatic family rift.

When the adults decide to separate the group, Munna and Harini decide to elope and marry in Tirupati, bolstered by Mangalam and the other friends who offer their support despite lacking parental consent. The confrontation that follows forces the families to cast the young couple and their companions out, leaving them to chart an independent path. The newly isolated troupe takes on odd jobs to survive and, with time, transforms their ambition into a shared dream: to turn music into a future. They form a band called Boys and start producing modern takes on Tamil devotional songs, slowly earning attention and a foothold in the local scene.

Their early success catches the eye of the industry, but it also draws scrutiny. The group is investigated under POTA for allegedly associating with extremist ideologies and criminals through their provocative songs. Mangalam steps in, using grit and determination to defend their innocence, and his tenacity helps free them from immediate danger. Impressed by their raw talent and potential, Mangalam takes on the role of manager and becomes a driving force behind their pursuit of a professional recording career. The band secures a contract with Sony, signaling a turning point that could turn their rough beginnings into lasting fame.

Trouble, however, comes from inside their circle. An inebriated Krishna reveals to Harini that the boys once hired a prostitute, a confession that shatters Harini’s trust and leads her to retreat to her parents’ home. The search for the truth intensifies as the group tries to locate the woman involved, while Kum ar meets a tragic end when a bus runs him over on a fateful journey. With Kum ar gone and the pressure mounting, Mangalam and the others press on to secure the Sony deal and salvage Harini’s career in film and music.

Despite their perseverance, a harsh ultimatum arrives from Harini’s parents: they will permit her to record only if Harini and Munna divorce and never see each other again. Munna agrees, prioritizing the group’s future and Mangalam’s faith in their talent over personal happiness. The band pours everything into their studio work and eventually releases an album that resonates with audiences, even performing live on MTV and dedicating a moment of triumph to Kumar. The success is sweet but complicated by the looming separation of Munna and Harini.

In a bold, last‑ditch plan, Mangalam orchestrates a calculated reunion. He stages a situation meant to provoke Harini’s jealousy and force her to confront the reality of her feelings for Munna. The ploy works: Harini experiences a fierce, possessive love that pulls her back toward Munna, and the couple reunites just as the divorce could have become final. Through perseverance, risk, and a family‑shaped loyalty, the duo finds their way back to each other, proving that love and friendship can endure even under the weight of pressure, betrayal, and the ambitions of a rising musical dream.
