Chess of the Wind

Khanom Bozorg dies, leaving her estate to be settled by the family. Aghdas, the matriarch's wheelchair-bound daughter, is left to mourn in the expansive Moshir ad-Dowleh Mansion alongside Hadji Amoo, Khanom Bozorg's widower, and his nephews Ramezan and Shaban. With the matriarch's passing, questions of who will inherit the house and its wealth begin to divide the household.

Aghdas and Hadji Amoo both believe they are entitled to the house and fortune. Ramezan is engaged to Aghdas, but it becomes clear his interest is chiefly financial. The stage is set for manipulation and control over the estate.

Aghdas and Kanizak enter Hadji Amoo's room and burn the deeds to the house, erasing Hadji Amoo's name from the document. The bold act signals their willingness to take the property by force. The house seems suddenly more vulnerable to their scheming.

After several heated clashes, the tension between Aghdas and Hadji Amoo grows uncontrollable. Their arguments revolve around money, status, and who deserves the family home. The atmosphere in the mansion fills with suspicion and fear.

Aghdas decides to kill Hadji Amoo and hints to Ramezan about her plan, signaling the alliance against the patriarch. She orchestrates the scheme with Kanizak's quiet complicity. The stakes rise as the path to inheritance becomes deadly.

As Hadji Amoo prays in his room, Aghdas is wheeled in by Kanizak and strikes him with a silver flail. They drag the wounded man to the cellar and seal him in a bottomless jar, intending to dissolve him later with nitric acid. The gruesome scene marks the beginning of a murder plot gone violent.

A few days later, two creditors and a police commissar arrive at the house to collect a debt. Aghdas claims she has not seen Hadji Amoo for days, while Kanizak and Ramezan escort the men to the cellar to inspect the jars. They leave empty-handed, but the encounter deepens the mystery surrounding Hadji Amoo's fate.

Aghdas grows increasingly paranoid that Hadji Amoo might still be alive. A travelling musical troupe claims to have seen him, triggering panic and a decline in her health. Kanizak convinces Aghdas to leave the house for a short pilgrimage to a holy site, hoping to calm her nerves.

Kanizak persuades Aghdas to visit a nearby holy site and she leaves the mansion for a brief period. The absence gives the household a temporary calm, but fear and curiosity about Hadji Amoo linger. The plan to control the estate continues in the shadows.

Alone at night, Aghdas hears laughter from the cellar and retrieves a pistol. She descends to the basement and discovers Hadji Amoo and Kanizak in the bath. She shoots Hadji Amoo and, in the same moment, succumbs to a heart attack.

Kanizak and Shaban reveal their plan to live off the inheritance together, and it is implied that they have orchestrated schemes for years. Kanizak even helps Ramezan to fake Hadji Amoo's death to secure the estate for the two of them.

Ramezan, enraged by Shaban's betrayal, shoots Shaban after coming across their bodies in the cellar. Kanizak departs the mansion, leaving behind only a young boy and Aghdas's elderly nanny. The final image pans across the city beyond the walls, leaving the fate of the estate and its players unresolved.
