Mukundan, Dileep, begins his journey as a cab driver in the city of Mysuru, Karnataka. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Hema, a drama artist, during a late-night trip. Hema, played by Kavya Madhavan, finds herself stranded when her troupe’s bus breaks down, and Mukundan quickly befriends her. Their connection deepens as he decides to move closer to her neighborhood after a conflict with his roommate, seeking a fresh start and to be near her.
One day, Mukundan’s quick thinking comes into play when he finds his client, Sreeram, in a critical condition after a suicide attempt. Acting swiftly, Mukundan calls emergency services, saving Sreeram’s life. This act introduces him to Sreeram’s family, sparking a series of flashbacks that reveal Mukundan’s past. He was once a bank field officer working in a remote village in Karnataka, a period marked by hardship and resilience.
As the story progresses, Mukundan falls in love with Radha, played by Samyuktha Varma, and they plan to marry. However, complications arise when Radha’s brother, Parthan, played by Lal, unaware of Radha’s relationship with Mukundan, arranges for her to marry Sreeram, her college lecturer, played by Jagadish. Meanwhile, Mukundan is deceived and trapped by a local goon, Thimmaiah, and a corrupt money lender, who are connected to his former employer, her Kavya Madhavan boss, who is suspended for misappropriating bank funds. Mukundan is falsely accused of embezzlement and ends up in police custody, which prevents him from stopping Radha’s marriage to Sreeram.
Radha, feeling forced into her circumstances, marries Sreeram, but her heart remains with Mukundan. This emotional turmoil leads to tensions, and during a confrontation in their village, Thimmaiah, the goon, is killed, and Radha’s brother accepts responsibility, ending up in jail. Consequently, Mukundan loses his job, and with no income, he works as a cab driver to survive. Radha, now married to Sreeram, is shown at a hospital, overwhelmed with guilt and unable to fully embrace her role as a wife, still longing for Mukundan. Her emotional neglect prompts Sreeram to attempt suicide, but Mukundan is there to save him, reinforcing the complex web of love, sacrifice, and remorse central to the story.
Realizing Sreeram’s fragile condition, Mukundan makes the painful decision to help Radha find peace. He plans to fake a marriage with Hema, played by Kavya Madhavan, asking Radha to forgive him and move forward with her life, embracing her responsibilities. Radha, overwhelmed by the circumstances, understands and accepts her fate, choosing to leave Mukundan and begin anew with Sreeram.
The film concludes with a poignant scene at a hilltop temple, where Mukundan and Hema walk hand in hand, walking down a path that symbolizes the transition from a fake union to a genuine commitment. This emotional moment underscores the themes of love’s sacrifices, the power of fate, and new beginnings, leaving viewers with a sense of hope and closure.
