Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-Lot

The Rainbow Carousel is built as a centerpiece for the Care Bear Fair. Grumpy works on it while Funshine loves telling jokes that make the other Bears laugh. The ride spirals out of control, launching them into the sky and crashing back to Care-a-lot. The accident unsettles everyone and sets the plot in motion.

Grumpy lashes out at Funshine, arguing that cheering up is not the same as making fun of serious matters. The others feel the sting of his sharp words and worry about the growing rift. After reading a note explaining his heartbreak, Funshine heads off to seek a place where his humor is celebrated. The Bears are worried and decide to search for him rather than move forward with the fair. Five Bears volunteer to look for him while others stay behind to prep for the event. The departure marks the onset of the adventure.

Five bears—Tenderheart, Grumpy, Wish, Cheer and Share—volunteer to search for Funshine, while Laugh-a-Lot, Love-a-Lot, Friend, Good Luck, Bedtime, and Champ stay home to prepare for the fair. The group sets out determined to find their friend and bring him back. Their mission tests their friendships and readiness to sacrifice for each other. The journey expands beyond Care-a-lot as they follow clues and hope to reunite.

Funshine follows circus music and arrives in Joke-a-lot, a city where humor dominates daily life. He lands in the town square via a parachute-like ride, where Gig greets him and explains where he is. Sir Funnybone proclaims Funshine the long-lost King and begins to reveal his plan to seize power.

In Joke-a-lot, seriousness is scorned and the residents prepare for a coronation. The Royal Sceptre and the jewels are kept in a vault guarded by Grand Duke Giggle, and the plan is for Funshine to be crowned king. Funnybone manipulates events, hinting at power and control over the joke city. The moment builds toward a dramatic coronation.

The town celebrates with the coronation ceremony in sight as the new king seeks access to the sceptre. The Bears, meanwhile, track Funshine and arrive at the palace, joining the spectacle. Grumpy apologizes again, realizing Funshine belongs with his friends as much as with Joke-a-lot. The tension mounts over who truly controls the sceptre and the town's magic.

The Care Bears crash into the Royal Palace as they rush to reach Funshine. They sense Funshine is torn between staying with Joke-a-lot and returning home to Care-a-lot. Grumpy apologizes for his earlier harsh words, and the friends rally around Funshine, urging him to come home.

Funshine declares he will go home to Care-a-lot, but Sir Funnybone tries to keep him as king. A chaotic chase unfolds through the palace corridors, leading to a perilous sequence as Funshine dodges traps and mishaps. In the end, his friends reach him and the decision is revisited.

During the Laff-Fest, Giggle hands the sceptre to the new king, and Funnybone orders the theft of its jewels. He infiltrates the Royal Treasury and unlocks the vault before escaping with the jewels on a pink dirigible. The caper sets off a high-stakes chase across Joke-a-lot.

Funnybone flees on a pink dirigible with the royal loot as the Bears mount a pursuit using the carousel. A Hanna-Barbera style sequence of chases and mishaps ensues, culminating in the dirigible bursting its balloon and crashing to the ground. The pursuit leads to a regrouping of the Bears and new revelations.

Funnybone reveals his real name Basil Ratbone from No Fun Atoll, confessing that the serious way he ran Joke-a-lot was a manipulation to spread his brand of fun. He wanted to energize his people by stealing the jewels, and he had misrepresented Funshine's tummy symbol. The revelation shifts the focus to the true source of magic behind their world.

The Bears open the chest to find a jack-in-the-box and other toys, revealing that the real magic jewels are not material but the joy of play. Funshine confirms that these are the genuine source of magic behind their happiness. The moment reinforces that friendship and laughter are true power.

In a final coronation, Giggle is crowned the ruler of Joke-a-lot, effectively becoming Princess and later Queen. The Bears witness a pivotal shift in leadership that honors Funshine while embracing Joke-a-lot's playful culture. The balance between amusement and heart remains at the story's core.

The Bears promise to return to Joke-a-lot another day but eventually ride home to Care-a-lot on flying horses powered by the carousel, thanks to Twinkers. The journey ends with friendship restored and the Fair able to proceed with Funshine back among his friends. Their hearts affirm that love and laughter endure beyond any magic jewels.
