Cabin Fever

A man stumbles upon a dog in the woods, initially thinking it is sleeping. Upon closer inspection, he realizes the dog is dead and infested, resulting in a gruesome and unsettling explosion of rotting flesh and blood.

Five college friends—Jeff, Marcy, Paul, Karen, and Bert—arrive at a cabin in rural Alabama to enjoy a getaway weekend. Their excitement quickly turns to unease as they interact with suspicious locals along the way, highlighting their status as outsiders in the area.

While stopping at a local convenience store, Paul is unexpectedly bitten by a young boy outside. This unsettling encounter adds to the tension as the locals eye the group with distrust and disdain.

Bert, out hunting for squirrels, accidentally shoots the rotting man he encountered earlier. This horrifying mistake compounds the group's troubles, escalating the situation into a fight for survival as they realize the man is infected.

That evening, the group gathers around a bonfire sharing ghost stories. Their night takes a bizarre turn when Grim, a local college student, joins them, offering marijuana and seemingly eccentric behavior before leaving to tend to his camping gear.

Later that night, the rotting man returns, desperate for help. In a twist of panic, Paul ignites the man, who runs off into the woods engulfed in flames, thus sealing their fate with this horrifying confrontation.

The next day, a local deputy promises to call a tow truck while Karen drinks from the contaminated lake, leading to her immediate illness. As symptoms flare, she becomes quarantined, setting a tone of fear and distrust among the friends.

As tensions rise over Karen's deteriorating condition, the group argues about how to handle the situation. The fear of infection and distrust within the group escalate, making it clear that their friendship is shattering under the strain.

Recognizing signs of infection in himself, Bert drives off in search of medical help. However, his encounter with the locals goes awry, leading to another bite and heightening the sense of fear that envelops the group.

In their isolation, Marcy and Paul succumb to their primal instincts, having wild sex despite the looming threat of disease. After the encounter, both are left disturbed by their choices, unsure of their health and safety.

Concern grows when Marcy discovers red marks on her back, a sign of the infection. As fear of contagion grips the group further, her condition begins to worsen and echoes the fate of those around her.

While exploring the local reservoir, Paul stumbles upon the body of the infected hermit and unwittingly falls into the contaminated water. This grim discovery marks the moment Paul's fate is sealed, as he too becomes infected.

Returning to the cabin, Paul discovers that Marcy has been gruesomely attacked and Karen is barely alive, leading him to end her suffering. It becomes clear that the remaining friends are now faced with ultimate despair and horrifying decisions.

Bert, pursued by the local rednecks, is ultimately killed in a tragic confrontation. As Paul fights off these attackers, he grapples with the realization that his friends are now victims of this gruesome reality.

After struggling to survive, Paul is left unconscious and dumped into a stream. His infected body contaminates the water, ultimately ensuring that the dreadful cycle of infection continues, affecting further innocent victims.
