Breaking In

The film kicks off with a harrowing scene featuring a man named Isaac, played by Damien Leake, who is on his way to a job in a suburban neighborhood when he is brutally struck by a pick-up truck. The driver emerges from the vehicle and callously stomps on Isaac’s head, leaving the audience in shock.

Fast forward to some time later, we meet Isaac’s estranged daughter, Shaun Russell, portrayed by Gabrielle Union. She is making the journey to Isaac’s old home with her children, Jasmine (played by Ajiona Alexus) and Glover (played by Seth Carr), to manage the estate and sell the property. Upon their arrival, Glover discovers security cameras in the basement along with a remote that controls the entire house, hinting at the surprises that lie ahead.

As the family tries to settle in, shaun orders pizza, unwittingly setting the stage for chaos when four criminals—Eddie (Billy Burke), Peter (Mark Furze), Sam (Levi Meaden), and Duncan (Richard Cabral)—break into their home and take Jasmine and Glover hostage. A fierce struggle ensues when Peter confronts Shaun outside, but she manages to fight him off, ultimately stabbing him with a broken wine glass. However, her relief is short-lived as she discovers Eddie looming threateningly over her children.

A tense back-and-forth occurs as Shaun races into the woods with Peter chasing her, but she outsmarts him and knocks him unconscious.

Desperate to negotiate with Eddie, Shaun communicates through the house’s intercom system, only to find out that the criminals are after a safe rumored to hold $4 million. Time is of the essence; they have only 90 minutes before the security company alerts the police. Eddie tries to keep his cool, unlike Duncan, who’s eager to eliminate anyone who may have seen their faces.

As Shaun devises her escape, she runs into Maggie, the real estate agent played by Christa Miller, who unwittingly walks into the criminals’ web. After an alarming encounter, Maggie’s fate takes a dark turn when Duncan attacks her, a moment that Shaun witnesses, further escalating her desperation.

In a gripping act of defiance, Shaun uses firecrackers to disrupt the villains’ plans, managing to sneak into the house and reunite with her kids. She instructs Jasmine on how to stay safe while she concocts a plan to rescue them. However, the situation intensifies when Jasmine inadvertently leads the villains to the hidden safe.

With time slipping away, Shaun attempts to negotiate the release of her children. The stakes soar when Eddie ruthlessly shoots Peter, forcing Shaun into a harrowing escape into the woods, while the criminals prepare to set the house ablaze.

In an explosive sequence of events, Shaun takes desperate measures, swinging from the roof after confronting the enemies and leading to a series of thrilling confrontations. As the tension skyrockets, Shaun ultimately faces off against Duncan, who poses a grave threat to her and her children.

The climactic finale culminates with a gripping showdown involving Eddie and Duncan, where bravery and survival instincts are pushed to their limits. After a fierce battle where Shaun manages to turn the tide, she emerges victorious, and the film concludes with a poignant reunion as she embraces her husband, Justin (played by Jason Winston George), and their children just as the police arrive on the scene.
