Birth Certificate unfolds against the fractured landscape of early World War II, weaving three distinct stories into a tapestry of life under occupation. Set in a time when the ordinary rhythms of existence are suddenly shattered by the machinery of war, the film captures a world defined by fear, displacement, and the quiet struggle to maintain one’s humanity. Through a lens of unadorned realism, the narrative traces how survival becomes a matter of instinct and the fragile bonds between strangers and family alike.

The first vignette, “On the Road,” finds a soldier burdened with the essential documents of a shattered unit forming an uneasy alliance with Janek, a young boy searching for his mother amidst the chaos. Their journey through a landscape crackling with danger highlights the desperate decisions made when safety is fleeting. In “Letter from the Concentration Camp,” the focus shifts to the home front, where brothers Zbyszek, Heniek, and Jacek navigate a climate of scarcity and suspicion while their mother works to keep the family afloat. Finally, “A Drop of Blood” centers on Mirka, a young Jewish girl left adrift in the wake of mass deportations.
