Bad Boys: Ride or Die

The film begins in Miami, where Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are frantically speeding through the streets on their way to a significant event. As they rush, Marcus expresses his discomfort and insists on making a pit stop for ginger ale. Mike rolls his eyes but allows him to grab the drink, alongside Skittles and a hot dog. However, their quick break takes a turn when a gunman enters the convenience store with intentions of robbing it. Mike steps up, reprimanding Marcus for his snack run before he swiftly disarms the assailant, shooting him in the leg.

The duo makes their way to Mike’s wedding, where he is set to tie the knot with his physical therapist, Christine (Melanie Liburd). Joining them are Marcus’s wife Teresa (Tasha Smith), their daughter Megan (Bianca Bethune), son-in-law Reggie (Dennis Greene), along with Captain Rita Secada (Paola Núñez), her boyfriend and District Attorney Adam Lockwood (Ioan Gruffudd), AMMO agents Kelly (Vanessa Hudgens) and Dorn (Alexander Ludwig), and U.S. Marshal Judy (Rhea Seehorn), the daughter of the late Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano). Just when the festivities are at their peak, tragedy strikes as Marcus suffers a life-threatening heart attack and collapses. In a surreal moment, Marcus envisions himself by a serene beach with Howard, who assures him that it’s not his time yet.

Upon waking in the hospital weeks later, Marcus bears a renewed appreciation for life, but he quickly encounters frustration when he discovers that Teresa disposed of all his beloved snacks to push him toward healthier eating habits. Meanwhile, in a shadowy Miami alley, former DEA officer James McGrath (Eric Dane) is seen executing a treacherous transaction and ordering the death of a cartel banker along with his girlfriend.

As news begins to circulate about Howard being posthumously implicated in cartel dealings, Mike and Marcus rush to their precinct to confront their superiors, who wrongly suspect Howard of being corrupt. Judy insists on pursuing the case herself, promising revenge on Armando (Jacob Scipio), the man responsible for her father’s death. The duo ultimately locates Armando in prison, where he reveals that Howard was targeted for his prior actions against the drug trade.

As McGrath and his accomplices persist in their malicious agenda, Mike and Marcus learn of a fail-safe that Howard had engaged, revealing critical information about past events and the formidable cartel forces intertwined with law enforcement. In an attempt to protect a key witness, Armando, Mike and Marcus engage in a dangerous confrontation where chaos ensues, leading to a helicopter hijacking and a dramatic crash landing in a nearby lake.

Following their harrowing escape, the trio becomes marked as fugitives while a sizable bounty is placed on their heads. In the midst of their precarious situation, they find themselves constantly on the run, swiping clothes and trying to secure resources while evading ruthless gangsters, such as Manny The Butcher (D.J. Khaled). They eventually devise a rendezvous with Tabitha (Tiffany Haddish), who duplicitously plans to betray them to the bounty hunters but is interrupted by rival gangsters, leading to a merciless shootout.

The tension escalates, culminating in a final confrontation at an abandoned alligator park, where loyalties and betrayals run deep. With lives on the line and McGrath threatening the safety of family members, Mike and Marcus must navigate a dangerous maze of deception, culminating in a decisive battle against enemies, loyalty reminders, and the quest for redemption.

The dust finally settles when justice prevails, with Howard’s name cleared and the Bad Boys enjoying a heartfelt barbecue celebration. As they playfully bicker over who claims victory on the grill, Reggie, now further respected for protecting the family, interjects, asserting his culinary prowess, drawing laughter from those around. In this moment, the bonds of friendship and family are reaffirmed amidst the chaos they’ve just emerged from, encapsulating the essence of what it truly means to be a Bad Boy.
