Two men waiting at the Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar chat as a heavy rainstorm strands them. One is the commercial director Anbarasu, who prefers the nickname A. Aras, and the other is the scarred and idealistic socialist Nallasivam, known to others as Sivam. When the flight is canceled, Aras initially suspects Sivam of terrorism and alerts the authorities, only to discover his mistake.
With the city flooded by rain, the two are forced to share a room for the night. Both have pressing reasons to reach Chennai: Aras must be at his wedding, and Sivam must deliver a ₹32,00,000 cheque to a group of union workers, money he has recently won in court.
After a traumatic night and no hope for a flight, the pair set off by bus toward a train journey on the Coromandel Express. Aras’s bag is stolen along the way, leaving him with only a credit card that no one will accept. Sivam stays calm under pressure and repeatedly comes to Aras’s aid, even as Aras tries to slip away at every turn, only to end up back in Sivam’s orbit.
At Ichchapuram railway station, Sivam begins to tell Aras his backstory.
In a flashback, a healthy Nallasivam—known in his street theatre world as Nalla—takes part in performances that critique multinational corporations and the industrialization that marginalizes workers. He clashes with Kandasamy Padayachi, a powerful factory owner who refuses to grant a fair raise. Nalla’s satire earns him enemies, yet it also helps him win the heart of Balasaraswathi, or Bala, Padayachi’s daughter. The lovers decide to elope to Kerala to avoid his wrath, hoping for a freer life together.
Their road journey ends in tragedy when a bus bound for Kerala crashes on a hillside, leaving Nalla scarred, disfigured, and partly paralysed. After a long recovery, he visits Bala only to learn that she has already married and started a family abroad. Padayatchi had lied to Bala, telling her that Nalla had died in the accident. This revelation deepens Nalla’s belief in kindness and patient love—the nurses’ compassion during his healing reinforces his commitment to humanitarian work. Despite his insecurities about his appearance, Nalla dedicates himself to community service and to the fight for workers’ rights, driven by a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
Back in the present, Aras delivers Sivam’s cheque to the union workers in Chennai and accepts Sivam’s invitation to his wedding. To Aras’s shock, Bala appears as the bride—the realization that the man he’s befriended may be the person Bala married rocks him. Padayachi spots Sivam and questions why he’s present, but Sivam persuades Padayachi to sign papers that secure a raise for his workers. The moment forces Padayachi to confront the consequences of his greed, and he orders his assistant to kill Sivam. The assistant, moved by the damage his boss’s schemes have caused, hesitates and reveals that he believes Padayachi’s actions led to his own daughter’s death. He pleads with Sivam to stay away from Padayachi, and Sivam, with quiet resolve, walks away, leaving behind questions about mercy, sacrifice, and the high costs of power.
