After returning from a job interview in Pune, Raghu meets Madhumitha, a naive and energetic woman who brings life and mischief into his quiet world. Her playful spirit injects color into his routine and awakens new feelings. The encounter sets Raghu on a path that will complicate his life.

Raghu secures a good job in Pune and is suddenly engaged to Madhu without informing his father. The engagement signals a swift turn toward a more comfortable life, while Raghu hides the news from his family. The relationship grows under the weight of expectation and secrecy.

Radha Krishnan, a spoilt NRI, visits Papanasam and is enticed by Madhu’s beauty and her family’s wealth. Madhu’s parents push for a life with Rad, canceling Raghu’s engagement. Madhu reluctantly agrees to marry Rad, sealing Raghu’s heartbreak and a painful family decision.

Unable to accept the dissolution of his engagement, Raghu asks Madhu to elope with him, but she backs out at the last moment. Grief-stricken, he attempts to end his life by plunging into a waterfall and survives with injuries. His father’s harsh rebuke underscores the sacrifices made for him and the need to move on.

Raghu spends months in a coma after the failed attempt, during which Madhu visits him. By then, Madhu has already married Rad and left for the United States, adding further tragedy to Raghu’s recovery. The family drama continues to unfold while Raghu fights to wake up.

Six months later, Raghu travels to New York City to pursue an MBA at NYU, staying in the mansion of Mohanram, his father's childhood friend. He is greeted at the airport by Mohanram’s niece Ratnakumari and settled into a new life in the United States. This move marks Raghu’s dramatic transition to a global stage.

Weeks into his NYU days, Raghu witnesses a benchmate, a Korean student, kill his ex-girlfriend and himself before his eyes. A mob tries to mug Raghu, but Ratna saves him from danger. Mohan reveals his prosthetic leg and his own 9/11 survivor story, motivating Raghu to persevere in New York.

Raghu runs into Madhu at a Tamil association function in New York and they reconcile. She gifts him an iPhone 4, and they embark on a trio-trip to Atlantic City. On returning, Raghu discovers Rad cheating on Madhu, complicating their renewed bond and plans.

Months pass as Raghu grows closer to Ratna and their families decide to get them engaged. Meanwhile Madhu learns that Rad continues to cheat and endures abuse, driving her to seek Raghu’s understanding and help. The past and present collide as loyalties are tested.

On the very day Raghu is set to marry Ratna, Madhu collapses in despair and cuts her veins, begging Raghu to take her back. Ratna’s intervention and her family’s reaction complicate Raghu’s sense of duty and future. The melodrama intensifies as emotions spiral.

Madhu, devastated by the events and the unfulfilled longing, drinks in sorrow and dies in a reckless driving accident. The tragedy reverberates through Raghu, Ratna, and their circles as they confront the consequences of ambition, betrayal, and love gone awry.

At the airport, Rad attempts to lie to Madhu's parents about his role in the tragedy, but Raghu storms in and exposes him, though the revolver that he wields is locked. Madhu's parents apologize to Raghu and arrange to send her coffin to India, closing the chapter of Madhu's life in Raghu's world.

Outside the airport, Ratna consoles Raghu and expresses that she loves his commitment and the life he is choosing to lead. Her presence offers a glimmer of hope for a future beyond the heartbreak and loss, signaling a chance to rebuild life together.
