I’m Sorry, I Love You

Cha Moo-hyuk So Ji-sub is a part-time scam artist roaming the streets of Melbourne, Australia. Abandoned as a child and later adopted by a local couple, his early life left him wary and rough around the edges, turning to street scams to survive. It’s during one of these schemes that he crosses paths with Song Eun-Chae Lim Soo-jung, a fashion coordinator whose world revolves around the fame of a well-known Korean singer, Choi Yune Jung Kyung-ho.

Yune travels to Melbourne to shoot with another famous Korean actress, Kang Min-Joo Seo Ji-young. He asks Eun-Chae to help him get close to Min-Joo, a request that tugs at Eun-Chae’s heart because she has long idolized Yune. Despite her mixed feelings, Eun-Chae goes along with the plan. Fate, however, intervenes when the same gang of criminals who plague Moo-hyuk robs Eun-Chae of her luggage and money.

Moved by her hardship, Moo-hyuk intervenes. He locates what was stolen and returns it to her, an act of mercy that stands in stark contrast to his rough exterior. This moment rekindles a fragile connection between them, and Eun-Chae returns to Korea, where she unexpectedly encounters Min-Joo and Yune, now a couple.

Weeks pass, and Moo-hyuk receives an invitation to his ex-girlfriend’s wedding. At the ceremony, an assassination attempt targets his ex-girlfriend’s husband, and Moo-hyuk is shot twice in the head. The doctors manage to save his life but cannot remove a second bullet lodged too deeply. The prognosis is grim: he has no more than a year to live. Overwhelmed by guilt and a sense of injustice, his ex-girlfriend gives him a bundle of cash and urges him to return to his homeland to discover his birth parents.

Back in Korea, Moo-hyuk uncovers a devastating truth: his mother is a famous actress, Audrey, and his life has been entangled in a larger, public story. He learns that his own half-brother is Choi Yoon, the son of Audrey, a revelation that deepens his sense of betrayal and fuels his desire for vengeance. Yet the path he treads grows more complex as he realizes his mother didn’t abandon him out of malice; the circumstances surrounding his birth were shaped by a tangle of secrets and decisions made in the shadows of fame.

Seeking leverage, Moo-hyuk decides to become Yoon’s road manager, embedding himself close to both Yoon and Min-Joo with a plan that could ruin them. As he moves through this dual role, his feelings for Eun-Chae begin to complicate his mission. A turning point arrives when he learns that his mother’s past involved an affair, and Eun-Chae’s father—the former chauffeur to Audrey—was complicit in separating Moo-hyuk from his twin sister at birth. The revelation reopens old wounds and reframes his quest for justice.

Ultimately, Moo-hyuk confronts the choice between revenge and self-sacrifice. He chooses to spare the people he loves by sacrificing himself: he dies in a motorcycle crash so his heart can be transplanted into Yoon. Before his death, he reaches out to Eun-Chae with a quiet, devastating message: > I’m sorry. I love you.

Yoon’s life is saved by Moo-hyuk’s heart, and he makes a full recovery. Yet the emotional toll does not end there. A grief-stricken Eun-Chae travels to Melbourne to visit Moo-hyuk’s grave, where she dies beside it, clutching a small red bottle. The film leaves a haunting implication: Eun-Chae’s death may be a final act of punishment for the man who shaped so much of their intertwined fate, a reckoning faced by Eun-Chae’s father and a reminder of the costs of long-buried secrets.

What remains is a tapestry of intertwined lives set against a backdrop of ambition, love, and the heavy price of truth. The story probes how loyalty can clash with vengeance, how forgiveness can be buried beneath years of pain, and how acts of ultimate selflessness can alter the courses of several lives forever.
