A Dark Reflection

Journalist Helen Eastman [Georgina Sutcliffe] returns home after a disastrous assignment in the Middle East and takes a new position at a local newspaper to stay close to her friend, Joe Forbes, an air traffic controller. After a near mid-air collision involving JASP Airlines Flight 313, Joe is suspended, insisting the pilot ignored tower orders. This incident mysteriously doesn’t make it into the press, which draws Helen into something larger than a routine scare.

She convinces her new boss, Nick Robertson [Paul Antony-Barber], that a cover-up may be at play, and together with Natasha Stevens [Rita Ramnani] they begin to investigate the murky world of aviation safety. As they dig, they learn that the company officer, David Morris [Stephen Tompkinson], has died, but his wife—an airline flight attendant—reveals that he had spent years pressing the same concerns despite mounting pressures to stay silent.

The investigation gains momentum when Ben Tyrell [Mark Dymond], the new director of JASP Air, discovers that Flight 313 was not the first troubling incident. He is told by the chief engineer that a design problem with pressurization allows vaporized oils to leak into cabin air, a revelation that points toward a systemic failure rather than a single accident. The film uncovers a dark side of the aviation industry, where a deliberate denial campaign is supported by the owners of the airline, Charles Jaspar [Nicholas Day] and Maggie Jaspar [Marina Sirtis], who weigh profits against public safety.

Ben is forced to confront a moral dilemma: should he protect corporate interests or put passenger and crew safety first? Meanwhile, Helen and Natasha understand that both the flight crew and the passengers are at risk, and they are determined to bring truth to light—even though the industry is a powerful opponent that will not hesitate to buy silence.

At a pivotal aviation conference, the director of JASP Air concedes that changes are coming and promises that the fleet will be modified so cabin air quality meets higher standards, signaling a potential breakthrough after a long, perilous inquiry.
