Renee’s desperate search for a place where the alien could be safe ends in a violent clash with the CIA. After she hides the shining black creature—she names it Croak—in her basement, the agency, led by Agent Jonathan Keyes, discovers their secret. Keyes uses a wire‑connected torture device to force Renee’s pain onto Croak, proving that the “bond” between them can be tracked. When the CIA finally corners her, they bind her to a chair, pulse her with electricity and, through the pain, draw Croak to the facility.

Croak bursts in, cutting down the agents who try to stop it. In the chaos he reaches the stunned Keyes, but Renee begs the creature to stop. The alien obeys her command, turning its fury instead on the gun‑wielding director. Keyes is stabbed by Croak’s razor‑like limbs as the creature endures a hail of bullets. Though the alien’s body is crippled by the gunfire, it manages to shield Renee long enough for her to grab the keys and attempt an escape. The facility’s alarms blare, the agents keep firing, and Croak collapses, mortally wounded.

The film cuts to a dimly lit detention room where Renee is left alone, her mother’s fate hanging in the balance. The next moment shows a post‑credit scene in a sterile lab: scientists arrange Croak’s corpse on a table, only for the alien to emit a low growl—its eyes flicker, suggesting it is still alive.

Thus the ending leaves two intertwined conclusions. On one hand, Croak sacrifices itself to protect the only human who ever trusted it, confirming that the bond they formed was more than curiosity; it was genuine friendship. On the other, the lingering growl hints that the creature may have survived the assault, leaving open the possibility that Renee will one day reunite with her extraterrestrial friend and that the conflict between humanity and the unknown will continue.
