Earth is a world at war, with humanity now based at Terra Prime and fighting a devastating alien onslaught from the Drekk. In the skies above, Adler Phoebe Sparrow, a Grey 6 gunner, rides along with pilot Yaren Daisy Aitkens in Dune Squadron, a seven-ship Terra Prime unit pinned between survival and annihilation. Their mission unfolds under the stern briefing of Colonel Danforth Alastair Kirton aboard the starship Valiant, who orders them to rendezvous at the planet Erebus, convinced that Terra Prime could have repelled the Drekk there. As they ride the edge of hyperspace, the duo works through a stubborn plasma injector coil issue, nursing the ship back to life with careful troubleshooting and stubborn perseverance.
When they finally drop out of hyperspace, the scene snaps into crisis: the Valiant is under brutal attack, its hull singing with enemy fire. Callaghan Charlotte Mounter, the Grey leader, orders a bold strike on six Drekk ships, but their plasma blasts barely scratch the Drekk shields. In the frantic chaos, they manage to down one foe, yet the price is steep: the squadron is slaughtered, every ship lost except Adler and Yaren. The salvo jaggedly cripples their own craft, forcing a crash landing on Erebus, a planet wrapped in a corrosive, toxic atmosphere and hostile terrain.
Adler comes to with the ship wreckage around her, the air thinning and the life support failing. Yaren lies gravely injured, their breath shallow and ragged. Adler drags the wounded pilot to an emergency life raft where a breathable pocket of air lingers, using her spacesuit as a shield against the planet’s harsh atmosphere. In a desperate bid for aid, she returns to the damaged ship to summon help, but the communications code is elusive. Yaren, growing weaker by the moment, offers a partial code, a clue that she believes might unlock a distant link back to Terra Prime. Adler fights to crack the code, and though the signal barely flickers, she guesses a path back to safety—one that places Terra Prime just out of reach with their current range.
Night falls, and a Drekk ship streaks across the sky, crashing somewhere on Erebus. The next day, Yaren succumbs to her injuries, the medical supplies on the lifeboat inadequate to treat the wounds that felled her. A new danger surfaces when a creature attacks the life raft, deflating it and leaving Adler scrambling for shelter. She returns to the Drekk wreck for salvage, and her quick work yields a plasma injector coil, a crucial lifeline for her own vessel. Yet the salvage mission grows perilous: a Drekk warrior, wearing a plasma-resistant suit, cornerstones the ship’s defenses and renders Adler’s pistol useless. She stabs at fear with adrenaline, dispatches the armored foe with a knife, and seizes their rifle as she fights her way to the Drekk ship.
The chase takes Adler through a geyser field, where a misstep sends her plummeting into a cave and her helmet takes a denting blow. The Drekk warrior attempts to seize the injector coil as Adler crawls back toward her own ship, dragging air and resolve with every inch. A harrowing tilt of fate leaves her helmet damaged until she can replace it with Yaren’s, a bitter echo of what was lost. She returns fire with plasma blasts from her ship and hurls rocks in a desperate assault, finally treachering the last Drekk and reclaiming the ship’s rifle. With the plasma injector coil secured, Adler bolts into the void of Erebus and tears skyward, the Drekk rifle in tow.
Another crucial moment unfolds as a navigation code prompt blinks to life on her screen. Remembering Yaren’s clue, Adler inputs the code—the autopilot heading that will carry her back to Terra Prime—an answer carved from sacrifice, tenacity, and the bond she shared with her fallen comrade. Erebus fades behind her as the ship surges away, the Drekk rifle a grim companion in the cargo bay, and the auto-pilot arc guiding her home to safety, to Terra Prime, and to the next chapter of the fight against the Drekk.
