Wrong Turn

A group of friends from New Jersey, consisting of Jen Shaw, Darius, Adam, Milla, Gary, and Luis, leave for a hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail in rural Virginia. Excitement and anticipation fill the air as they embark on their adventure, unaware of the dangers that await them.

Upon arriving in a quaint Virginia town, the group meets local residents who express concern about wandering off the designated trails. They are specifically cautioned by Nate, who emphasizes the potential dangers of the wilderness, adding a sense of foreboding to their trip.

During their visit, Jen encounters a mysterious woman named Edith and a mute girl named Ruthie. These unsettling encounters create an eerie atmosphere, hinting at darker events that may be connected to their hike in the woods.

As the group delves deeper into their hike, tragedy strikes when a rolling tree trunk falls, crushing Gary and taking his life instantly. This devastating event leaves the friends shocked and grieving, impacting their dynamics and resolve to continue the journey.

After setting up camp that evening, the group discovers the following morning that Milla has vanished along with all their cellphones. Panic ensues as they begin to search for her, heightening the tension and fear among the friends.

In their frantic search for Milla, the group stumbles across a plaque from 1859 that commemorates a group of settlers known as the 'Foundation.' The inscription hints at ominous predictions regarding the eventual downfall of the United States, deepening their sense of unease.

During their search, Adam inadvertently triggers a trap and finds himself in danger. When rescued, he ends up in a violent struggle with two men dressed in primitive clothing and, in a moment of survival instinct, kills one of them, marking their first direct confrontation with the local cult.

Milla suddenly reappears after having hidden from the men, but their brief reunion is short-lived. In a tragic turn, Milla falls into a pit and is impaled, while Adam, in a panic, abandons her as she is shot by an arrow fired from one of the cultists.

The remaining friends—Jen, Adam, Darius, and Luis—are captured by the cult and taken to their primitive settlement. They are brought before Venable, the cult leader, who accuses Adam of murder and unveils the sinister nature of their captors.

Venable finds Adam guilty and sentences him to death, while Jen, Darius, and Luis are condemned to a fate described as one of 'darkness.' The atmosphere turns grim as they witness Adam's execution at the hands of Venable, reinforcing the dire situation they face.

In a moment of desperation, Jen pleads for mercy and offers her and Darius as potential assets to the cult. This unexpected plea surprisingly earns her a place among the cult members, leading to a horrifying acceptance of her new reality.

Weeks later, Jen's father, Scott, embarks on a search for her with the help of a local motel owner. He hires a tracker to guide him through the woods, but chaos ensues when they fall prey to traps set by the Foundation, putting Scott's life at risk.

Scott finally locates the cult's settlement but is immediately surrounded by the members. In a shocking twist, Jen, who now appears brainwashed and committed to Venable, shoots her father with an arrow, claiming it was meant to protect him from suspicion.

As Jen and Scott try to escape together, they encounter Darius, who chooses to stay behind at the last moment. With help from Ruthie, they navigate through dangerous encounters with cult members, ultimately leading to a violent, desperate fight for freedom.

In the climax of their escape, Jen stabs Venable and kills another cultist, demonstrating her fierce resolve. As the chaos unfolds, Jen and Ruthie make their way back to familiarity, forever changed by the horrifying experiences they endured.
