On the remote Mayaman Island, a team of six documentary filmmakers — Sebastian Beazley, Phoebe Drake, Cecilia Reyes, Joey Valencia, Rachel Rice, and Dexter Simms — arrives to spend six days filming a wilderness survival special, Surviving the Wilderness. The crew sets up camp and quickly senses something off as the jungle around them grows dense and unpredictable. The atmosphere is tense from the start, with whispers of a local folklore creature that might haunt the island.
On the second day, Joey Valencia and Cecilia Reyes venture alone to the village of the Isarog tribe. There, signs of violence linger: a woman’s body with a gouged stomach and others scarred by savage attacks. Despite the danger, the duo decides to stay for the full shoot, and Joey urges Cecilia to remain quiet about what they’ve seen. That night, Phoebe overhears their hushed conversation and the crew’s growing fear deepens as they discuss the Aswang—a shapeshifting, flesh-eating jungle predator from Filipino folklore, said to prowl the island. The creature’s weaknesses—staying on the ground too long and fire—become a whispered caution among the group.
By the third day, danger becomes personal when Sebastian Beazley is bitten by the Aswang. Phoebe discovers an infant’s corpse, and the team splits to pursue their own leads: Joey Valencia and Cecilia Reyes head toward a gun tower near the nest, following an old map. There, Cecilia learns Joey’s real motive—he’s searching for gold left behind decades ago by his grandfather, a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II. The treasure map and some gold are unearthed when Joey knocks a hole in the tower’s floor and descends. As Cecilia shelters above, the Aswang swarm, attacking with ferocity. Joey is killed in the melee, and Cecilia witnesses his fate as the creatures close in.
The group learns Phoebe is pregnant, and the Aswang are targeting her blood to turn her unborn baby into one of their own. Cecilia escapes on foot while Dexter eventually reaches her after her calls for help. The surviving members rally to fend off the onslaught, managing to injure several of the creatures, but the danger remains acute. They attempt a desperate escape by inflatable raft, yet the Aswang relentlessly pursue them and claim Dexter’s life in the melee.
Night falls as Sebastian and Phoebe seek refuge in a jungle ditch. Sebastian fights bravely, but his machete mishap and injuries slow him, and he urges Phoebe to run while he holds the creatures off, a grim sacrifice that ends with his death.
Dawn on the fourth day finds Rachel Rice and Cecilia Reyes sheltering at the gun tower again. Rachel searches for Joey’s satellite phone, hoping for a line to the outside world. A lone creature emerges, but Cecilia shoots it with Joey’s gun, buying a fragile moment of safety. Rachel descends via a rope into a lower level, but the rope’s wooden hinge snaps and she collapses into unconsciousness. Cecilia fights through a horde of nest-flying creatures, and in a brutal moment of resolve, she detonates a handheld explosive she had prepared earlier inside the nest—killing the attackers, the pregnant woman inside the nest, and Cecilia herself’s unborn threat in one final blast. Meanwhile, Phoebe escapes the island on the raft, only to find herself landing on another island where she discovers three pregnant women who are destined to give birth to more creatures.
Back at the gun tower, Joey’s sat phone rings in his bag, a faint tether to the world they left behind. Underground, Rachel shows signs of life, hinting that not all is lost, and the group’s expedition ends in a stark, brutal confrontation with a myth made real.
This tense survival tale blends documentary realism with folklore-driven horror, tracing how fear, loyalty, and the drive to survive collide on a remote island where legends walk among the living.
