Alice Klieg, portrayed by Linda Cardellini, is a single woman grappling with mental illness who relies on disability benefits and has a deep admiration for Oprah Winfrey. Her life takes an extraordinary turn when she wins the California Stack Sweepstakes lottery, claiming a staggering $86 million. Alice’s excitement spills over during a local TV news segment, but her heartfelt speech takes an unexpected twist when she candidly mentions using masturbation as a coping mechanism, leading to an awkward interruption. Ignoring the counsel of her psychiatrist, Daryl Moffat, she decides to skip her medication and relocates to a lavish casino hotel with her loyal best friend, Gina Selway, played by Kristen Wiig.

In an amusing yet bold move, Alice seizes the spotlight during a vitamin supplement infomercial hosted by Gabe Ruskin. She attempts to once again articulate her vision, but the director cuts her off yet again. Not to be deterred, Alice captures the interest of Rich Ruskin, played by James Marsden, the co-owner of the studio, who arranges a meeting to explore her bold idea for a TV show. Exhilarated, Alice throws caution to the wind, writing a generous check for $15 million to produce 100 live, two-hour episodes of her unique vanity project entitled “Welcome to Me.”

Gabe, played by Wes Bentley, is initially puzzled by the show’s unusual direction, but after spending time with Alice on a date, sparks fly between them, igniting a romantic relationship. After suffering burns in a comedic cooking accident on her show, Alice explores a new theme about neutering dogs, utilizing her six years of veterinary nursing experience. Yet, overwhelmed by Alice’s erratic behavior, Gabe ultimately resigns, deeply frustrated. Meanwhile, escalating tensions with Rich create ripples within the studio as Alice faces a barrage of lawsuits for slander and health violations. In a dramatic face-off, Rich storms the set demanding the cancellation of the dog neutering segment, leading to the abrupt end of a live broadcast, leaving Alice with substantial financial liabilities amounting to $7 million to settle her legal troubles.

As the mounting pressure weighs heavily on her, Alice experiences a mental and emotional breakdown, culminating in a disorienting night spent traversing the casino floor in a bid for clarity. Following a hospitalization and resumption of her medication, she reconnects with Dr. Moffat, offering heartfelt apologies for her past actions. In partnership with Rich, she orchestrates a grand finale for “Welcome to Me,” planning a spectacular telethon to find forever homes for the dogs she has neutered and to mend her fractured relationships.

With the show’s conclusion, Alice takes a meaningful moment to extend her gratitude to Gina for her unwavering support, presenting her with a check for the remaining $7 million from her lottery win. As harmony returns to her life, Gabe surprises Alice with a camcorder as a token gift. As she finally drifts into slumber, Alice turns off the television, signaling a heartfelt conclusion to over 11 years of her life—a powerful testament to personal growth, reconciliation, and new beginnings.
