The story begins with a woman dancing provocatively at a nightclub, captivating the audience. Suddenly, she is violently confronted by Hubert Florentini, a commisaire of the French Police, who drags her out in handcuffs despite the patrons' attempts to intervene.

After the nightclub incident, Florentini faces consequences for his unorthodox and violent methods. He is put on paid leave from the police force, despite his previous successes in fighting crime.

While enjoying his time off, Florentini reflects on his past, particularly the love he lost—Miko, a Japanese spy he met 19 years prior. Her memory haunts him, leading to an internal conflict despite his seemingly fulfilling life.

Florentini receives devastating news about Miko's death, prompting him to travel to Japan. He is summoned by her lawyer, Hishibachi, for the reading of her will, which marks a significant turning point in his life.

At the will reading, Hishibachi reveals that Florentini has inherited the guardianship of Yumi, a teenage girl. Unbeknownst to Yumi, she is actually Florentini's daughter, which complicates their relationship deeply.
