As the story begins to unfold in this intense thriller, we are introduced to Mickey, portrayed by Bill Skarsgard, and Jules, played by Maika Monroe, a couple deeply entrenched in a dangerous criminal world. Their chaotic lives take a dramatic turn during a high-stakes gas station heist that results in Mickey accidentally knocking the cashier unconscious, inadvertently sabotaging their escape as the register goes silent. In a bid to ease the tension, Jules jokingly hands Mickey a snack, hoping to lighten the mood.

Their plan to flee to Florida is swiftly derailed when they run out of gas—an ironic twist considering their recent criminal activities. Left with no option, the pair abandons their car and begins a desperate journey for alternative transport. Their adventure leads them into an unsuspecting neighborhood where their attempt to break into a house takes a turn when Mickey finds the door secured with a deadbolt.

Undeterred, Jules then produces a crowbar, and together they force their way in. After settling into their new surroundings, they indulge in some recreational cocaine, which inspires Mickey to create a devious plan to siphon gas from the homeowners’ vehicle. However, while scavenging for supplies, they stumble upon a chilling sight—a young girl, portrayed by Blake Baumgartner, chained to the basement floor.

Feeling compassion for the lost child, Jules is quick to act, but Mickey urges caution. Eventually, they join forces to free the girl just as the homeowners, played by Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick, walk in. Initially, they seem friendly, but when Mickey pulls a gun, George attempts to calm the situation, recognizing the peril the couple has put themselves in.

A deal is proposed by George: take what you need and leave without alerting the authorities. Yet Mickey remains focused on liberating the girl, whom the couple affectionately calls “Sweetiepie.” Reluctantly, they lead Mickey and Jules back to the basement, where chaos ensues when Sweetiepie bites Mickey in a show of resistance, prompting George to deliver a stunning headbutt that leaves Mickey incapacitated.

In a bizarre turn of events, Mickey finds himself tied to a bed while Gloria, portrayed by Kyra Sedgwick, exhibits a disturbing interest in him, flashing pictures of her supposed son, “Ethan.” Meanwhile, Jules is shackled in the basement, desperately trying to communicate with Sweetiepie and share her own traumatic past of abandonment. This tension-filled standoff lasts for two days, during which Mickey seems to dawdle, succumbing to Gloria’s unsettling affections, until she affords him a chance to escape.

However, just as liberation feels within reach, George appears and thwarts their plans with a gun, ensnaring Mickey once again. As they plot their potential getaway, Mickey ingeniously employs Jules’ tongue stud as a lock-picking device. Despite her initial reservations about the pain it might cause, Jules agrees to go along, culminating in their eventual freeing of Jules. However, the stud breaks off in Mickey’s mouth, leaving him vulnerable and at the mercy of George’s sinister threats.

When the confrontation escalates, Jules returns with Ethan, a porcelain doll representing something far darker to Gloria. The confrontation reaches a climax when Gloria grabs a gun and fires at Jules, startling everyone as chaos unfolds. The tension ultimately leads to a dark dinner party where truth unfurl as George unveils his twisted intentions to dispose of the couple, staging their deaths as a tragic “addict” tale.

Just as the ominous plan is due to unfold, a police officer knocks on the door, raising alarms given the couple’s abandoned car connected to the robbery. George’s anxious attempts to manage the situation falter, ultimately compelling him to hide Mickey and Jules. With the officer drawing closer, Jules seizes an opportunity to revive their spirits, rediscovering their fighting spirit through the remnants of the concealed cocaine.

With renewed determination, Mickey and Jules devise a clever plan to outsmart their captors while tensions rise within George and Gloria, leading to Mickey’s final heartfelt words to Jules before facing a tragic fate. Meanwhile, the unpredictable Sweetiepie switches the narrative, taking control as she defends herself and Jules against the ruthless couple.

As the chaos escalates and bodies drop, the dynamic between George, Gloria, and Sweetiepie comes to a dramatic conclusion. Carrying the emotional weight, Jules finds herself paralyzed in the aftermath but ultimately rallies with Sweetiepie, embarking on a new chapter filled with warmth, healing, and hope, culminating in a tender day at the beach—a juxtaposition of their chaotic past and the promise of a brighter future.
