In the jail yard, Jarnail and Aman clash as old wounds surface about their arranged marriage. Tarsem offers quiet support to Jarnail and asks him to share what happened in the past. Jarnail opens up about his feelings and the loneliness of confinement, deepening their bond.

Before his arrest, Jarnail was a dairy farmer who sold milk in the village and hoped to marry Aman. Aman longs for a love marriage, while Aman’s brother pursues an arranged match with drug involvement. Jarnail tells Baljit of his decision to commit to Aman despite the risks.

Sometime later, Jarnail starts attending a class that Aman teaches for the elderly to learn English, and a genuine affection grows between them. The two begin to trust each other as they navigate covert hopes for a future together. Their bond becomes central to the unfolding plot.

Jarnail returns to Aman’s family to rekindle the marriage proposal, but Aman’s brother distrusts the renewed plan. The family dynamics are strained as they weigh love against social expectations. The tension foreshadows the complications to come.

On the way home from Aman’s house, a police stop reveals opium hidden in one of Jarnail’s milk cans. Jarnail proclaims his innocence, but the evidence and suspicion drive a rift with Aman’s family. Aman believes him, while Jarnail suspects involvement by Aman’s brother, deepening the mistrust.

Tarsem narrates his backstory: he sold toys on a bike and cherished his young son, dreaming of his happiness. A traffic incident nearly harms his son, prompting Tarsem to slap a police officer and trigger his arrest. He explains that his sentence length grew due to repeated escape attempts, and reveals the tunnel and keys he kept as lifelines.

That same night, Tarsem and Jarnail execute their plan, slipping out through the tunnel, stealing two prisoners’ shirts and a car to vanish into the night. Tarsem returns to his family in the hope of reunion, while Jarnail heads toward Aman’s house to elope with her. The breakouts set both men on separate paths toward possible freedom.

Tarsem visits his grandparents, who breathe a sigh of relief at his escape but lament that he has only a month left on his sentence. He then meets his son, who declines to go with him, leaving Tarsem wounded but determined to endure the waiting period. He stays outside, clinging to a hope for reconciliation.

With Vaisakhi approaching, the prison prepares for celebrations while the Jail Minister and his aide arrive to oversee procedures. They issue orders to bring Jarnail and Tarsem to the minister’s office, but the two escapees are nowhere to be found. The tension surrounding the escape puts the minister's position at risk.

Aman and Jarnail reach out to Jalaur to minimize political fallout, and Jalaur lays out a plan: on Vaisakhi, minor offenders would be released, including Jarnail and Tarsem. Jarnail informs Tarsem that they’ve earned a fighting chance at freedom, fueling cautious optimism. The plan, however, hinges on their ability to return to the prison as ordered.

Officials learn of the tunnel’s existence but flood the passage with sand to hide the discovery from the minister’s sight. The fugitives’ path to freedom becomes more precarious as the evidence is buried and the manhunt tightens. The sand sealing creates a temporary shield for the escapees but increases the risk of exposure later.

Baljit, Aman’s father, and a gang confront the fugitives, exposing his long-held desire to marry Aman. He accuses Jarnail of undermining that plan and admits hiding drugs in Jarnail’s milk cans, trying to coerce him away from Aman. Tarsem and Jarnail fight Baljit and his men, pushing forward against the odds.

As Vaisakhi celebrations loom, the minister arrives and the minister signals for the fugitives to come forward. Tarsem and Jarnail leap into view just as the minister’s order is formalized, and their release is signed. The scene culminates with Tarsem reuniting with his family and Jarnail reconnecting with Aman’s family, a new dawn of hope rising over Vaisakhi.
