In the 1970s, Krishnan and Malini are students at Madras Christian College and fall in love. They marry, start a family, and have two children, Suriya and Shriya, establishing the foundation for the family’s future. The early years sow the seeds of a friendship-first dynamic between Krishnan and his son.

As the children grow, Krishnan and Suriya relate more as friends than as father and son. This closeness informs Suriya’s sense of family and responsibility, shaping his future actions. Their bond remains a throughline that will be tested by later hardships.

After finishing exams in Tiruchirappalli, Suriya meets Meghna on a train and falls for her. She is unsure about love at first sight, and later leaves for California to pursue a master's degree. This seeds a long-distance connection that will shape his future.

Krishnan suffers a heart attack, linked to his chain-smoking habit, underscoring the fragility of life. The event jolts Suriya into recognizing the need to be more than just a son. The family rallies to support him.

Suriya starts a design business with friends and performs at concerts to earn money. Their efforts eventually fund the construction of his father's dream home. The family begins to stand on its own feet amid hardship.

Six years after earning his commission, Suriya meets Priya in Dehradun and their relationship deepens. She proposes again, he accepts, and they marry, starting a new family together and eventually having a son. The couple builds a stable life, separate from Meghna’s memory.

Krishnan is diagnosed with throat cancer, a consequence of his smoking habit. He is given a year to live, casting a shadow over the family's future. This illness intensifies Suriya’s sense of duty to his remaining family members.

Suriya is called on a dangerous mission to rescue a journalist kidnapped by terrorists in Kashmir. He undertakes the operation, confronting danger and overcoming obstacles to bring the journalist home. The mission showcases his growth into a capable and fearless Major.

Returning home victorious, Suriya honors his father with the final rites, and the family pours Krishnan’s ashes into the sea. Malini reminds him that he is the conqueror of 1000 elephants, urging him to move forward with his life. The film closes with a memory of Krishnan smiling as he watches his family.
