Rohan, a 17-year-old student, faces expulsion from the prestigious Bishop Cotton School, Shimla after being caught watching an adult movie off-campus with his friends Vikram, Benoy, and Maninder. Returning to his hometown of Jamshedpur, he confronts a harsh and abusive father who is also a hardworking factory owner, as well as a 6-year-old half-brother, Arjun, who initially had no idea Rohan existed. His father subjects him to relentless physical and verbal abuse, forcing him into a rut of early mornings jogging, racing, and then working at the family’s metal factory, followed by taking engineering classes at the local university. Despite Rohan’s struggles, his supportive uncle encourages his passion for writing, but his father vehemently dismisses this dream.

One evening, Rohan impulsively sneaks out, takes his father’s car, and visits a bar where he encounters some senior students from his college. Initially ridiculing him, they soon become his friends, and this becomes a recurring escape for him—taking his father’s car and drinking at the bar late into the night. Rohan, in a act of defiance, deliberately fails his exams, hoping that his father will give up on controlling his life, thus freeing him to pursue his aspiration of becoming a writer.

Meanwhile, his father is called away to deal with issues involving Arjun, leading to a series of tense events. Arjun ends up in the hospital after an incident involving a fall down the stairs, which Rohan lies about to protect his brother and avoid further complications. In the hospital, Rohan’s talent for storytelling and poetry impresses the medical staff, and he learns that Arjun was beaten by their father following a failed business deal, revealing a darker side to his family life. As he bonds with Arjun and shares stories, Rohan becomes more determined to forge his own path.

His father returns, discovers Rohan has failed, and they clash violently. Despite this, his father briefly apologizes, and Rohan senses hope for change. However, his father then shocks him by announcing plans to remarry and ship Arjun off to boarding school, while Rohan is forced to labor full-time at the factory. A fierce argument ensues, resulting in his father burning Rohan’s collection of poems and diary. Later, his father introduces his new wife and stepdaughter to Rohan.

On his eighteenth birthday, Rohan receives a family heirloom—a watch that belonged to his great-grandfather—and a series of revelations occur. His friend Manjot Singh informs him that Vikram now owns his uncle’s restaurant in Mumbai, and Rohan is invited to join the duo. Seeking to release his frustrations, Rohan vandalizes his father’s car near a river, but police witness this act. He ends up spending the night in jail after his father reports the incident.

When he finally prepares to leave home, Rohan exchanges heartfelt words with his father, prompting his stepmother to realize his father’s true nature. During a confrontation, she punches his father, and Rohan runs away, feeling victorious as he finally beats his father in a metaphorical race for freedom. Spending the night at his uncle’s house, Rohan has a moment of realization: he cannot abandon his younger brother Arjun to the same harsh conditions.

The following morning, Rohan returns home and finds Arjun waiting outside. His father, meanwhile, departs to send Arjun to boarding school. Understanding that their bond and future are more important than his own aspirations, Rohan persuades Arjun to escape together and head to Mumbai, leaving behind his watch and a heartfelt note explaining his decision and warning him not to search for him. As they walk away hand in hand, their future remains uncertain but full of hope and possibility, symbolizing both emancipation and new beginnings.
