Two Bits & Pepper

Katie devises a plan to ride the horses into town by going beneath the highway that crosses their property, exploiting Carla's vague rule. After school, Tyler and Katie prepare Two Bits and Pepper and set off toward town.

Tyler and Katie follow the plan and ride toward town on Two Bits and Pepper, meeting up with their friends once they arrive. They spend time in town hanging out with their best friends.

Carla yells at Tyler for disobeying and risking trouble. The confrontation ends with Tyler running away from home.

Earlier in the day, crooks Zike and Spider attempt to kidnap a young boy at school, using the ploy of a free ride home. The boy's father reports the incident to the police, triggering an investigation.

Katie crosses the road and runs into Zike and Spider. They try to grab her by exploiting a supposed link to her father, but she escapes by throwing rocks.

Tyler comes home at sunset to a worried household and learns she is missing. Roger and Carla alert the police and start a search, checking Two Bits and Pepper's pins as they go.

Zike and Spider are pulled over by the police for matching the boy's description and are released after questioning. The FBI soon joins the case due to the kidnapper leads.

That night, Zike and Spider break into Katie's house. Katie drops a candle, causing a fire that quickly engulfs the home. The intruders flee into the surrounding fields.

Two Bits and Pepper escape from their pins and, through telepathy with Tyler and Katie, begin moving through the fields in search of them. The search party spots the horses but hesitates to pursue.

The trio hide in a shack the next day, where they learn there is a ransom for their release. The sense of danger intensifies as time passes.

Two Bits and Pepper are taken into the back of a man's truck. They later end up at a town saloon, where Pepper helps free Two Bits and they escape as the drunken driver drives off.

Zike and Spider corner Tyler and Katie near a bridge; a tense chase unfolds under a helicopter's glare. Spider fires a shot, but the chase ends with Zike arrested and Spider captured after Pepper intervenes.

The police arrive alongside a search crew; Tyler and Katie are rescued, and Two Bits is brought to a veterinary hospital for surgery after being shot. A large reunion occurs with Roger, Carla, and the others.

A few weeks later, Tyler and Katie ride Pepper happily while Two Bits follows them from behind, and they ride off into the sunshine as the film fades to black. The scene suggests a hopeful return to normal life and ongoing friendship.
