Shih Chun, Tou Kuan's greedy uncle, plots to seize control of the family business and fortune. After Tou Kuan's bullying incident gets exposed, Shih Chun sees an opportunity to undermine Tou Kuan's mother and take over the household's wealth and power.

Shih Chun's greed is hinted at early when he observes Tou Kuan's misbehavior, calculating how to use it to his advantage.

Shih Chun manipulates Tou Kuan's mother by convincing her that sending Tou Kuan to Beijing to find a wife will help him mature and become more responsible. She believes this journey will help her son grow into a worthy heir.

Earlier, Shih Chun's scheme to undermine her is set in motion after the bullying incident.

Near the Forbidden City, a court employee lures Tou Kuan and Mai Song into a shortcut that turns out to be a castration surgery room for men volunteering to become eunuchs for the imperial court. They barely escape with their lives, highlighting the comedic danger of the journey.

This dangerous detour occurs at the imperial guard recruitment center, a place they expected to find opportunity.

3 Eyes is a Taoist assassin hired by Shih Chun to kill Tou Kuan and clear the way for Shih Chun to claim the family fortune. He is a fearsome killer with a reputation for leaving dead constables in his wake, and he vows to send more killers after Tou Kuan throughout his journey.

3 Eyes appears immediately after Shih Chun hires him, establishing the ongoing threat from the uncle's plot.

Tou Kuan, Zhen-hao, and the master thief 3 Hands infiltrate the Russian consulate on a bet to steal a jade locket before sunrise. During the night, another assassin called 4 Eyes infiltrates to kill Tou Kuan, leading to a fight where they discover 4 Eyes is only vulnerable once his glasses are destroyed.

The bet with 3 Hands sets up the consulate confrontation, and the jade locket challenge drives the nighttime mission.

Ren Zhen-hao is a Western-appearing womanizer who joins forces with Tou Kuan and Mai Song. He challenges Tou Kuan to flirt with a woman at a snooker club, leads them to the Russian consulate scheme, and fights alongside them against the assassins. In the finale, he wears armor that 3 Hands helps remove to reveal the victor.

Zhen-hao's womanizing behavior and Western style introduce him as an unpredictable ally.

In the climactic torture room fight, 3 Eyes returns to kill Tou Kuan. The four men, Tou Kuan, Mai Song, Zhen-hao, and 3 Hands, combine their weight to collapse the spike torture device onto 3 Eyes, defeating him. This collaborative effort represents their unified strength against the assassin.

3 Eyes' earlier vow to send killers follows Tou Kuan, building to this final confrontation.

During the consulate mission, Tou Kuan meets a Russian woman whom he later reunites with inside a jail. In the finale, Tou Kuan and Mai Song bring their Russian wives back to Guandong to meet Tou Kuan's mother, who arrives in Western clothing, signifying acceptance of their unusual marriages.

The Russian consulate infiltration directly leads to Tou Kuan meeting the Russian woman.

4 Eyes appears nearly invulnerable to melee attacks, but once Tou Kuan, Zhen-hao, and 3 Hands destroy his eyeglasses, he becomes vulnerable and Mai Song is able to shoot him in the leg. The glasses seem to provide some form of supernatural or psychological protection that is tied to his identity as an assassin.

This vulnerability is revealed only during the consulate fight, making it a crucial turning point.

The Three Northern Witty Young Masters introduce the master thief 3 Hands, who effortlessly steals Tou Kuan's money sack while restrained. They bet whether 3 Hands can steal a valuable jade locket from the Russian consulate before sunrise, which drives the group's infiltration mission.

3 Hands' demonstration of stealing Tou Kuan's money bag establishes his skills and sets up the larger bet.
