Lucille Charity Shea carries a heavy burden of memory and mood, rooted in a family tragedy she hardly understands. When Nadine Dominique Swain abruptly ends her life by leaping from a rooftop as Lucille speaks with Angel Master P about her father, the world around Lucille tilts violently. The moment sparks a chain of events that pulls Sid Corey Large and Antoine Danny Trejo toward a brothel to learn more about Lucille. Angel’s goons close in with brutal efficiency, and a fierce gun battle erupts, shattering the relative safety of the night.

From that instant, a startling transformation unfolds: Lucille’s identity seems to fuse with Sid. The Sid who had been searching for Lucille and who fought in the gunfight is effectively erased, while the Sid now seen behind the bar is, in Lucille’s eyes, the man she has become. Everyone around them sees Sid as Lucille—a girl—yet Lucille herself sees her reflection as Sid, a man, creating a haunting split that drives the rest of the story.
