The Ugly Dachshund

Fran and Mark rush to the hospital as Danke goes into labor, their nerves buzzing with excitement. They hurry through traffic and hope to reach the hospital before the birth begins.

Officer Carmody stops them for speeding, but learns they are racing to the delivery. He escorts them to the county hospital to ensure Fran and Danke arrive in time.

At the veterinary clinic, Danke is in labor and Dr. Pruitt explains that Duchess has also given birth. He reveals that one of Duchess's male puppies was pushed away due to insufficient milk and suggests Mark consider taking a male pup home to save him. Officer Carmody even follows them to the vet to ensure Danke's delivery goes smoothly.

Back home, Mark brings the Great Dane puppy home, and Fran notices an extra puppy in the mix, not suspecting a second litter yet. The household adjusts to this unexpected arrival as Danke's milk is ample for both pups.

Later, Mark reveals the truth about Brutus being from another litter and explains that Danke's generosity allowed the pup to join their family. Fran processes the revelation but welcomes the new member.

Brutus grows up with the dachshund puppies and begins to mimic their tiny-dog antics, even hunching his body low as he walks. He starts to believe he is one of the dachshunds, blending in with the group.

A montage of mischief follows as the dachshunds lead Brutus and Fran's pets into trouble around the house. The events include Danke's sweater being torn and Mark's studio getting splashed with paint.

As the chaos continues, Fran grows frustrated and asks Mark to remove Brutus from the home. The tension highlights how quickly affection can be tested by constant canine antics.

Brutus proves his loyalty when he saves Chloe, Fran's favorite puppy, from a garbage truck. The brave act demonstrates that Brutus, though different, cares deeply for his family.

Moved by Brutus's act, Fran changes her mind and decides to keep Brutus as part of the family. Her heart softens as she sees the bond grow between Brutus and the others.

The couple enters their dogs in a local dog show, where Brutus meets a Harlequin Great Dane female and stands at attention among his breed. He feels a sense of belonging as he holds his own among the larger dogs.

Brutus goes on to win two blue ribbons at the show, proving he belongs with the Great Danes. The victory marks a milestone in his self-identity and acceptance by the breed.

The experience lets Brutus discover what it means to be a Great Dane, and the dachshunds show him newfound respect. He earns their reverence by proving his strength and heart.
