The Thief of Baghdad

Soon after his father's death, Prince Taj of Sakkar is pressured to compete for Princess Yasmine's hand. Jaudur and the Wazir's agents ambush Taj, stealing his royal seal and causing an innocent man to be murdered in Taj's place. Taj escapes the trap and must head to Baghdad to prove his identity.

Dressed in rags and hungry, Taj arrives in Baghdad where he befriends Hassan, a magician and thief who becomes his ally. Hassan helps Taj gain entry to the Caliph's court and begin winning Yasmine's attention. Their bond grows as they plan Taj's path to legitimacy.

Jaudur arrives on a flying carpet and asserts that he is the true king, accusing Taj of imposture. The Caliph, bound by custom, appears to lean toward Jaudur's claim. Taj and Hassan face a perilous political showdown.

Taj challenges Jaudur to a duel, but Jaudur is protected from injury due to his soul being hidden away. Taj loses the duel, and the Caliph is forced to accept Jaudur's claim. The path to truth becomes a dangerous quest.

The Caliph declares a grand quest: all suitors must seek the object of greatest value in the world and return in three moons. This delay gives Taj time to prove his true identity. Hassan and Perizadah join Taj on the journey.

Perizadah overhears Jaudur pressuring a traveling holy man for information, revealing Jaudur's schemes. They learn of an all-seeing eye that can reveal the truth and help Taj defeat Jaudur. Hassan eagerly commits to Taj's cause.

Taj and Hassan steal Jaudur's flying carpet to speed their journey. The carpet refuses to take Taj, seemingly bound to Yasmine, so Hassan commands it to go where he would. The carpet carries them to the temple of the all-seeing eye.

Inside the temple, a gatekeeper warns Taj not to be lured from the path or be turned to stone. Taj endures insults about his parentage, resists rescuing a serpent, survives a fire trap, and glimpses a statue of a past seeker who failed. The trials intensify as they seek the eye.

Near the temple, Taj is momentarily drawn away by a vision of Yasmine and is turned to stone. Hassan reluctantly follows, but fear nearly lets the serpent illusion succeed, and his hesitation limits intervention. The moment marks a turning point for the duo.

With the gatekeeper's blessing, Hassan resists the temple's trickery and locates the eye. The inscription at Taj's feet—'The truth lies within thy reach'—guides him to grasp the eye. Taj is restored, and the eye begins to reveal deeper truths.

Using the eye, Taj learns what Yasmine truly desires and discovers the location of Jaudur's soul in a bird's nest. They attempt to return to Baghdad on the carpet, but Jaudur's men attack, shredding the carpet and sending Taj and Hassan tumbling to the ground.

Jaudur returns to Baghdad with the eye and exposes other suitors' gifts as fakes. He casts a spell to hypnotize Yasmine, her father, and the people into agreeing to the marriage, while the Caliph struggles to see through the deception.

Taj discovers a bottle in the sand and releases a giant genie who offers three wishes. He uses the first to be reunited with Hassan, the second to travel to the nest to retrieve Jaudur's soul, and the third to return to Baghdad with his companions.

In the bird's nest, Taj breaks open the egg to destroy Jaudur's soul. The bird attacks, but Hassan releases the genie, who shooes away the bird and returns them to Baghdad just in time to interrupt the wedding. The hypnotic spell breaks and the Caliph blesses Taj and Yasmine.

With Jaudur defeated and the spell broken, Taj and Yasmine wed under the Caliph's blessing. Hassan and Perizadah depart on Jaudur's restored carpet, drawing the adventure to a close and sending them toward new horizons.
