The quaint English village of Wall borders a mystical realm known as Stormhold, separated by a stone wall watched over by a vigilant guard. In a stroke of cunning, Dunstan Thorne manages to trick the guard, crossing over into the lively marketplace of the magical kingdom. There, he encounters Una, an enslaved princess who offers him a mesmerizing glass snowdrop in exchange for a kiss. Their night together results in a significant surprise—nine months later, the guard delivers their son, Tristan to Dunstan.

Fast forward eighteen years, and the ailing king of Stormhold throws a ruby into the sky, declaring that the first of his sons to retrieve it will claim the throne. The jewel collides with a star, causing both to tumble from the heavens and land in the heart of Stormhold. Princes Primus and Septimus embark on separate quests to reclaim the gemstone.

Meanwhile, in Wall, Tristan and Victoria spot the falling star. Driven by his infatuation with Victoria, Tristan vows to recover the star for her hand in marriage. However, the guard remains a hindrance, so he is gifted a Babylon candle that allows him to travel anywhere he desires. Upon lighting it, he finds himself face-to-face with the fallen star, who takes the form of a beautiful woman named Yvaine. Tristan seizes her using a magical chain, intending to bring her back to Victoria.

Unbeknownst to Tristan, a trio of ancient witch sisters has plans of their own. They seek to consume the heart of the star to regain their lost youth and power. Led by Lamia, they are on a deadly hunt for Yvaine, who becomes a target when she grows weary, prompting Tristan to chain her to a tree as he goes in search of food. However, fate intervenes when a unicorn frees her, leading her directly into Lamia’s clutches at a newly conjured inn designed as a trap.

Upon returning to find Yvaine missing, Tristan learns from whispered warnings of the stars that she is in grave danger. He hastily boards a passing coach, fortuitously run by Primus. Upon arriving at the inn, their arrival disrupts Lamia’s horrific plans, resulting in Primus’s death. Tristan and Yvaine narrowly escape with the help of their Babylon candle, only to be caught by whimsical pirate captors flying a ship. Captain Shakespeare, the leader, pretends that Tristan is his nephew and Yvaine is merely a friend, much to their surprise. He provides them with disguises and instructs Tristan on the art of fencing and Yvaine on dancing.

With looming threats, Septimus, the last surviving son of the king, is determined to find the ruby and secure his claim to the throne. Realizing that Yvaine possesses the stone, he understands the significance of her heart for immortality.

After departing from Captain Shakespeare, Tristan and Yvaine confess their growing love and share a night together in an inn. However, Tristan’s longing to tell Victoria about his newfound feelings for Yvaine leads him to take a lock of her hair with him. When that lock transforms into Stardust, he comprehends the peril Yvaine faces if she crosses the wall, prompting a frantic rush back to save her.

In her sorrow, Yvaine journeys towards the wall, believing Tristan betrayed her for Victoria. Thankfully, Una, recognizing the danger, commandeers a caravan to intervene. In a tragic turn of events, Lamia kills Sal and captures both Una and Yvaine, whisking them off to the witches’ manor. In the meantime, Septimus and Tristan forge a temporary alliance to pursue Lamia. As they storm the castle, Septimus discovers Una is his missing sister, while Una reveals to Tristan that she is his long-lost mother.

With united forces, Septimus and Tristan manage to eliminate two of the witches. Yet, the malevolent Lamia uses dark magic to eliminate Septimus, leaving Tristan to confront her alone. However, amidst tragedy, Lamia feigns a breakdown over her sisters’ deaths and frees Yvaine, only to expose her deadly intentions. In an emotional moment, as Tristan and Yvaine embrace, their love rekindles Yvaine’s celestial essence, ultimately vanquishing Lamia.

In the aftermath, Tristan claims Yvaine’s gemstone, wherein Una reveals Tristan’s rightful heritage as the last male heir of Stormhold. Subsequently, he ascends to the throne alongside Yvaine as his queen. As Dunstan and Una are reunited, the couple rules for eighty prosperous years before using a Babylon candle to transcend into the skies, where they continue to bask in eternal love as stars.
