The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Documentary

During the May 22, 1994 prom in rural Texas, Heather discovers Barry cheating with another girl. Barry tries to explain as they drive away in his car. Jenny and Sean, who are hidden in the backseat, are smoking marijuana and listening in.

Heather takes a detour off the freeway, becoming distracted and colliding with another motorist who passes out in the ensuing confusion. Jenny, Heather, and Barry leave Sean to look after the unconscious driver and set off to find help. Their venture leads them toward a nearby office trailer.

Inside the office trailer, Darla, an insurance agent, promises to call her boyfriend Vilmer, a tow truck driver, for help. She appears helpful at first, setting up contact with the killers. The meeting foreshadows the danger that surrounds them.

Vilmer arrives at the wreck site and kills the unconscious motorist before chasing Sean in his truck, backing over him repeatedly. Heather and Barry hurry back toward the scene as the danger closes in. The violent pursuit marks the early onset of the killers' assault.

Nearby, Heather is attacked by Leatherface and forced into a meat locker inside the farmhouse. Barry is confronted by W. E., who holds him at gunpoint and traps him inside. Barry manages to outsmart W. E. and locks him outside, but inside the bathroom he discovers a corpse and is killed by Leatherface with a sledgehammer. Leatherface then impales Heather on a meat hook.

Jenny returns to the wreck and is offered a ride by Vilmer. He reveals the bodies of Sean and the motorist hanging in the truck bed, threatening Jenny. Jenny escapes, but Leatherface chases her through the farmhouse, and she makes it out through an upstairs window into the woods.

Jenny seeks refuge with Darla, but W. E. shows up and beats Darla with an electric cattle prod. Darla is revealed to be in league with the killers. The two put Jenny in Darla's trunk as they leave to pick up some pizzas for dinner.

After tormenting Jenny, Vilmer drags her to the dinner table where the family surrounds her. Rothman, a sophisticated man, arrives and reprimands Vilmer for his methods while revealing scarifications on his torso and licking Jenny's face. He leaves, and Vilmer's rage intensifies.

With Rothman gone, Vilmer attacks again, slashing himself with a razor and killing Heather by crushing her skull beneath his cybernetic leg, then knocks W. E. unconscious with a hammer. The family closes in on Jenny as the plan to kill her intensifies.

Jenny breaks free and uses a remote to manipulate Vilmer's leg, enabling her to escape. She reaches a dirt road and is rescued by an elderly couple in an RV, but Leatherface and Vilmer run the couple off the road, sending the vehicle tumbling. Jenny emerges unscathed and continues running, with Leatherface and Vilmer in pursuit.

A cropduster swoops down and kills Vilmer by grazing his skull, ending his pursuit. Leatherface screams in anguish as Jenny looks on. The danger shifts away from the immediate chase.

A limousine arrives and Rothman greets Jenny in the backseat, apologizing and explaining that the experience was meant to be spiritual and that Vilmer had to be stopped. He offers to take her to safety before dropping her off at a hospital, where she speaks to an officer. The scene marks a fragile sense of closure as she processes the ordeal.

In the closing shot, Leatherface continues to flail his chainsaw in despair on the dirt road. The image leaves the fate of Jenny and the larger threat unresolved, underscoring the film's lingering horror.
