The Quiet Girl

In the summer of 1981, Cáit, a nine-year-old girl, struggles in her impoverished rural Irish household. She feels neglected among her many siblings and faces humiliation at school, particularly when she spills milk on herself.

With her mother expecting another child, the family decides to send Cáit away to live with her middle-aged cousin, Eibhlín Cinnsealach. This move represents a significant change in Cáit's life as she leaves behind her chaotic home environment.

Upon arrival at the Cinnsealach home, Cáit is warmly received by Eibhlín, who showers her with affection. Eibhlín introduces Cáit to the daily chores of managing the household, helping her to feel more at ease.
