The Parole Officer

Simon Garden, a well-meaning probation officer who suffers from hypoglycemia, is transferred to Manchester. He starts developing feelings for the attractive WPC Emma while adjusting to a new city and a new caseload.

Kirsty crashes her car and is rescued by Detective Inspector Burton, who charges her with concealing Class A drugs in a toy. Simon handles her case and begins to suspect Burton after he notices the toy during the proceedings.

That evening, Burton murders an accountant who threatened to expose his drug involvement. Simon follows Burton to a nightclub and, after witnessing the crime, realizes Burton is corrupt. He flees the scene, dropping his wallet in the process.

The next day, Burton remains in charge of the murder investigation and threatens to frame Simon if he reveals what he knows. Disheartened, Simon begins planning to leave Manchester.

Simon sees Burton on television and realizes the murder was filmed by CCTV. He learns the CCTV evidence was deposited at West Clyde Bank by the nightclub owner, prompting him to recruit help for a bank heist from three of his former cases—George, Jeff, and Colin. Kirsty also joins after offering to help.

Colin devises a computer virus to trigger every security alarm in the city, while a robot is designed to disable the vault’s time lock. The plan hinges on capturing a staff vault code on film, establishing the chance to breach the vault.

To aid the getaway, the crew recruits cycling activists to stage a protest around the time of the heist, creating traffic gridlock and complicating police pursuit. The group trains together and slowly bonds as they work toward the plan.

Emma questions Burton about the accountant’s murder after Simon reveals what he witnessed. That night, Simon’s house is raided and the accountant’s severed head is found, leading to the group’s arrest.

Kirsty escapes custody and helps the others escape, convincing Simon to press on with the heist despite the increasing danger.

The team reaches the bank and overcomes several security measures, but the bank code won’t work while the alarm is active. A disguised Victor, who had faked his death, reveals that the code won’t function under active alarms.

Inside the vault, Simon recovers the CCTV tape while the others steal a shoulder bag of cash Burton had received for his corrupt activities. They flee as police arrive, aided by the citywide bicycle protest.

Simon goes to Manchester City Hall to interrupt Burton’s award ceremony, but Burton’s men seize the tape and Emma arrests Simon to question his intentions. Emma suspects he may be innocent and works with him to expose Burton.

Emma helps stage a hostage situation to publicize Burton's crimes, using the stolen money as leverage. Victor reappears, posing as a police officer and in possession of the tape recovered from Burton’s men.

When the CCTV tape is played, Burton is arrested along with his men as the crowd celebrates Simon’s actions. Victor quietly departs with the stolen cash, and Simon and Emma share a kiss, sealing the film’s ending.
