The Medallion (2003) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of The Medallion (2003), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Eddie Yang, portrayed by Jackie Chan, is an intrepid Hong Kong police officer working alongside Interpol to take down the nefarious crime lord AJ “Snakehead” Staul, played by Julian Sands. The plot thickens when Snakehead acquires an ancient book from a Chinese bookstore keeper, detailing the story of a chosen boy destined to unite two halves of a legendary medallion. This medallion possesses powers that can grant its holder incredible strength and immortality.

In the bustling heart of Hong Kong, a team of Interpol agents led by Agent Arthur Watson, played by Lee Evans, readies themselves to apprehend Snakehead and thwart his plans to kidnap the young boy. Despite Eddie’s concerns that the Hong Kong police should spearhead the operation, Watson insists on taking control of the mission inside a temple, leaving Eddie to watch from a van. Their differing methodologies soon come to light when Eddie sees a mysterious light radiating from within the temple.

As Eddie enters the temple, he finds himself in a fierce confrontation against Snakehead’s henchmen as they attempt to seize the boy named Jai, portrayed by Alex Bao. With Watson’s assistance, Eddie successfully rescues Jai just before Snakehead can capture him, but the formidable villain and his men manage to escape.

Weeks later, the stakes are raised when Jai is kidnapped again and taken aboard a cargo ship in Hong Kong. Eddie, along with a dedicated team of Hong Kong police agents, springs into action once more, realizing that Jai is in grave danger. The tension escalates as some of Snakehead’s men flee with Jai to Dublin, Ireland.

Upon arrival in Dublin, Eddie is assigned the mission to find Jai and bring him to safety. However, Watson, who at this point is reluctant to follow Eddie’s lead, still plays a vital role in the investigation. During this time, Eddie reconnects with his girlfriend, British agent Nicole James, as they collaborate with Commander Hammerstock-Smythe to locate Jai, who is being held by Snakehead’s right-hand man, Lester Wong, played by Anthony Wong.

An unexpected encounter with one of Snakehead’s operatives leads Eddie to uncover Jai’s location in the Dublin harbor, prompting a daring rescue mission where Eddie, Watson, and Nicole confront multiple adversaries. As they engage in battle, Eddie and Jai find themselves trapped in a shipping container, which is then thrown into the water by Lester Wong.

Against all odds, Eddie keeps the boy alive using an inflatable tent, but tragically, he drowns in the process. However, when Jai uses the medallion to resurrect Eddie from the brink of death, a new chapter begins. As Eddie grapples with his return to life, he learns that the medallion can not only bring back the dead but also bestow remarkable powers.

Though initially hesitant, Eddie reveals his miraculous return to Nicole, rekindling their relationship under dire circumstances. Yet the threat remains prevalent as Snakehead attempts another capture of Jai, employing a helicopter to carry out a daring kidnapping. With a portion of the medallion’s power, Jai must face the challenge of using it against Snakehead, who now possesses enhanced abilities but remains mortal.

Drifting toward a climactic showdown, Eddie and his allies uncover Snakehead’s lair hidden within a foreboding castle known as “Raven’s Keep.” Their mission takes a tragic turn when Snakehead kills Nicole, claiming the second half of the medallion, leaving Eddie to confront his greatest adversary solo. In an epic clash, Eddie uses the medallion’s powers to strip the life from Snakehead, ultimately leading to the villain’s demise.

In a poignant twist, Jai allows Eddie to harness the medallion’s power to resurrect Nicole, who emerges not only alive but also gifted with superhuman strength and immortality. As they join forces, the two lovers embark on a new adventure while Jai ventures into a portal, hinting at the mysteries that lie beyond.
